Tire pressure monitor systems
I just bought a Tire pressure monitor systems and have the 3010DS.
My question is should i install metal tire stem values to support the weight of the sensors? or will my rubber stems hold them? Thanks

I have had 3 different TPMS systems over the years. Not sure which one you have, but I would recommend having the metal valve stems for stability purposes. -Glenn

Metal for sure with the holders - you cannot let the sensors touch the rim - it damages them and also will screw up the connection

Your 3010DS should have metal valve stems already. Mine came with them from the factory. I had the TPMS system on for 2 years now . Works great.

If you do have rubber stems you should replace them with metal. The weight of the sensor can cause rubber valve stems to fail.

I just installed the TST510 on my 2009 Sunseeker.
Turns out the RV came with the braided steel lines on the rear inner tires, and all valves are metal stems.
I put 90 degree extensions on the outer wheel valve stems to get the sensors outside the rim.
On the front I had to remove the hubcaps and put on small extensions which put the TST cap just outside
the hubcap.
It was easy to put in the parameters for the six wheels. Then I was surprised to see the whole thing spring to life,
even without the included antenna!
Adjusted air pressures to suit my parameters and replaced front hubcaps.
The display seems to get a signal from each tire every 10 seconds or so, the whole cycle would then be a minute
for the six sensors.
Pretty impressive system so far!

I use TST flow thru on steel stems. No problems and I like them.

For those already using a TPMS system is it worth getting the flow thru sensors vs the sensors you have to take off to add/adjust tire pressures? Also, which brand are you using and why did you select it?. I need to add one to my travel trailer and want to be sure I get the most reliable and cost efficient system.

i used teh 507 from TST and rubber valve stems... big mistake on teh painted rims because the sensors are too heavy and wore the paint off in the strike area. on my SOB trailer we now have we installed teh high pressure metal stems on teh rims and no more problems...

Great TPMS! But, a couple of words of caution. The braided wire valve stems need a support to prevent them from flopping around. (My 2015 GT came without the supports causing a double blowout due to a leaking stem!) Even at that, I would not recommend using them. Go with stainless steel. Another word of caution: I put TST 507 flow-thoughs on my Jeep toad also. Unfortunately, the Jeep came with aluminum valve stems. I accidentally bumped the TPMS and it snapped off the valve stem. So, I took it to the local big-rig tire store and he pulled open a drawer with 20-30 other aluminum stems that had broken off just like mine. Unfortunately, or fortunately, the Jeep has an internal TPMS (for the vehicle's OEM TPMS) which meant $96 to replace the valve stem. Too bad someone can't come up with a way to have the MH TPMS read the signal directly off the toad built-in system.

I have the 510rv also on my 3010ds forester. The on thing that I had a problem was on my toad. I had to get the antenna booster. Got a 12volt plug and plugged it in to the 12 volt socket and it worked great after that . $50. Though .

I run the TST507 Flow-Thru system on our 2014 Silverback 33RL and have not had a chance to replace the rubber stems yet, however, I plan to do so when we purchase our next set of tires.....I have had no issues with leakage or damage to my system but to help along the way I purchased from Amazon this set of chrome covers for under $10....it has given the rubber stems some rigidity and I think they will get me to my next tire purchase....

Another question. Many here recommend balancing the tires; does adding the sensors effect the balance?
Also read on the web site that the TST507 updates every 6 seconds, but only sends info to the monitor every 5 minutes. Not instantaneous info at all; a lot can happen in 5 mins.
Also understand you may need to add a signal booster. I really am trying to justify one of these, but still not sure. Will study it some more.
Thanks for all of the info so far; will continue to monitor this thread.

The sensors weigh less than a ounce so it will not affect the balancing, but it is recomended that you have metal valve stems. The weight of the sensor can break down a rubber stem over time.

Also, keep in mind that the brass from the sensor and aluminum from the stems will react to one another and sieze together. Use a little anti-sieze on the stem before you put them on and this will prevent that from happening.

Any one out there with the E450, what length valve stems did you use for the rear tires and did you use brackets with any of the metal valve stems for extra support?

Sorry to disagree, we did 5 with the flow thru sensors both on and off and all 5 were off by 0.5 oz which is enough to cup a tire.
