Towing 2002 land rover discovery II with sunseeker 3170DS

I have a 2013 3170DS and was wondering if anyone ever towed a 2002 land rover discovery II. I understand that the tow hitch states 5000 lbs. Maximum. The weight of the land rover is 4500 lbs. Just wondering if it is safe to tow and which way to tow. Dolly, flat or any other way. Thanks for any response.

You need to consult your owners manual to determine if you can "flat" tow (4 down) or tow at all except on a trailer. Not sure of the transfer case/all wheel drive setup but my guess is you could not tow on a dolly without disconnecting the rear driveshaft. Based on a quick review of a Rover forum for 1999 to 2002 models most recommended removing the driveshafts before flat towing. If not then use a trailer for long distance towing. Problem with a trailer is the total weight would be over 5K.
