Upholstery only lasts 5 years, peeling off??

The Upholstery on my 2013-2014 Forest River Sunseeker 32 foot Class C is all peeling off after about 5 years. It's on the couch and and table cushions. Tan imitation leather looking stuff. I'm wondering what others have been doing to fix the issue? I thought about replacing the couch with two small recliners maybe and then having the table cushions reupholstered.

Hi Larry,
I can't offer much advice except to let you know that I have moved your post to the Sunseeker forum.
I also notice you have 3 distinct issues/questions and I suggest you post them as separate questions for clarity of responses.
Good luck!

The fake leather used in RV's isn't known for lasting or wearing very well. Having a local upholstery shop redo them in a good fabric is probably the best long term solution. If you do a Search there are folks here who have replaced their dinettes with tables and chairs.

Have you checked the awning fuse(s)?

The fuel tank needs to be at least a quarter tank full for the generator to run. Since that is a loosely defined amount of fuel I'd want to have at least a half tank of gas if I was troubleshooting a problem. Your fuel pick up in the gas tank could be on the borderline....

I did check the fuse and power at the relay. I have not put dc power directly to the motor from an external 12vdc supply. I might try that next, bypassing all the controls.

My 2013 Mirada upholstery started flaking and I contacted FR customer service and was sent all new ready-made upholstery at no charge. Since I was out of warranty I had to do the labor myself. Not too bad of a job. Note how everything comes off and have a pair of hog ring pliers handy.

You were lucky ours only lasted two years. When we travel we keep the blinds up and the sun has a major impact to peeling. Also the oils in your hair can cause failure to happen. Don't pay someone to try an fix it, we did and it lasted 3 months and started to fail again.

Imitation leather (bonded leather) has been discussed as nauseum here and other forums. No real solution other than reupholstery.

You are very fortunate on the upholstery. Most of us had problems after 2 years or less. Don't count on FR doing anything after 5 years. You may want to look at Layz Boy or some others for some quality replacement. Upholstery shops are not cheap for quality fabric. At least compare prices.

Fabric

I and thousands of other owners. Williamsburg furnature made the furnature. Forrest river bought the fabric and shipped it to williamsburg furnature. Forrest river is responsible but they will need a lawsuit to make it right. Good luck

It is bonded leather that is basically fake leather sprayed on a backing. All FR products have this problem. We bought leather recliners to replace our theater seating. They came with bonded leather on the surfaces that you don't come in contact with and they are starting to peel on those surfaces. We are going to fabric next.
