Water Tank Drain 3170

I know where the low point drain hoses are on the 3170 but, is this also considered the water tank drain or is that in a separate location?

I am not sure what your asking but the water drain valve is to the right of your water filter. You can't even see it unless put your whole head in the compartment and look to the right. There is a valve there. Just remove the cap on the bottom of your hose under the RV then turn that valve and your fresh water will drain.

The low point drains are on the downstream side of the water pump. The water tank is on the upstream side of the water pump. I can't tell you where either is located, but I can tell you they are NOT the same. The tank drain is usually right on the bottom of the tank, but there may be hose between the tank and the valve since you have a motor home.

I respectfully disagree. The low point cold water drain and the fresh water tank drain are one and the same on the Sunseeker. As others have said, the valve is located next to the water pump and filter. If you look under the chassis, you will see the drain lines. My cold line does not have a cap on it--controlled by the valve. The hot water line drain is next to the cold. It does not have a valve but a cap on the end of the line.

Well so I thought I was draining the tank by just opening the hose cap under the MH but barely a trickle runs out so then I started wondering why there's not more of a rush of water.

I have not been opening that valve by the filters so I guess, I haven't been draining the water tank. Lesson learned.

If you use an RV about once a month should you drain the hot water?

Then what you are saying is your fresh water holding tank is blumbed directly to your cold water lines (unless the drain valve is a 3 way valve). And, if not a 3 way valve then respectfully, I think you need to reevaluate your blumbing as your scenario would allow the fresh water tank to port water directly into your cold water lines by-passing the water pump. Some rv's do not have both hot and cold low point drains but I believe all will have a dedicated fresh water holding tank drain. JMO.

Thanks to Hoglou on another thread, here is a picture of the plumbing. Top blue is city water feed. It has a tee with the output of the pump into the water filter. Next blue line is from the fresh water tank. Notice it has a tee in it. One side goes to the input of the water pump. Other side is a drain--notice the valve in it. Red line is the hot water line low point drain. Blue line on the right side of filter is feed to all water lines.

Here is a picture of the modification I made to mine to connect a line to an antifreeze bottle and have the pump pull antifreeze into the system. (Remove water filter first).

Makes sense. So, where is your cold water lines low point tied into the holding tank drain?

If these are your only drain lines I suspect that you will find the red line is actually the cold water line low point drain and not hot water low point drain. You do not have a hot water low point drain (accomplished via the water heater draining or by-pass valves set to by-pass) as previously noted. Just a guess.

RvBill fits the bill

RvBill,

You wouldn't have the part number for that brass AF pick up valve would you? I need to rework my plumbling in the filter area as it looks like a monkey did it.

It is a winterizing kit from Camping World (and I am sure other places).

I shortened the white hose on the inlet side of the pump and added the kit. All parts were included, except I did change out the hose clamps for new ones.

RvBill3 - Unless your water pump is missing the "normal" internal check valve that keeps water from the downstream side of the pump from running backwards into the upstream side, you cannot drain the lines downstream of the pump from the freshwater tank side of the pump.

I'm not saying that the line you're showing ISN'T a low point drain (it may be a necessary low point drain on the upstream side of the pump due to weird hose routing, BUT I strongly doubt that it's the low point drain that drains the downstream side of your pump. I suspect you've got low point drains elsewhere in your system, probably close (i.e., below) your kitchen or bath faucets.

Without crawling underneath my Sunseeker and posting pictures, I can assure you there are no other drains under the MH except the two you can see in the pictures. Yet somehow, for two winters now, I have drained every bit of water out of the system (including removing the drain plug from the water heater). I don't pretend to know everything about the routing of the water system, but the OP asked about the fresh water tank drain and low point drains. These are the only two drains.

In order to add the antifreeze, couldn't you detach the upstream from the freshwater tank and drop that hose into a bottle of antifreeze under the MH and pump it if you didn't want to add the bypass valve to the water pump or is that line buried?? I haven't dragged the coach out of storage yet.

I'm attempting my first winterizing try this weekend and that was my brother's suggestion to save money and mods on the pump lines. Although they look pretty easy to do.

Respectfully these are the way newer Sunseekers are plumbed
Two low point drains
Blue cold (shutoff valve in compartment by pump)
Red Hot (cap under coach)
Read the thread titled What came out of my hot water tank
It talks about my low point Hot cap breaking off and all the minerals and deposits sucked out of my hot water tank and staining the Aluminum on my Motorcycle trailer

My 2014 2450 has two drains.

1) Blue line from Fresh Tank with valve is the tank drain. It only drains the fresh tank.

2) Red line with cap drains the house.

Yours may be different....

trdutch: I'm wondering if this is really your FW tank drain, not a "low point" drain. (See MrJoe's item #1 in Post #19).
