While Crawling Under Motorhome

Noticed a long crack on the fiberglass underbelly. Not happy about this. Not sure if it warrants repair or not.

I would at least caulk it and watch it. If it splits the caulk or cracks worse, I would grind it down and layer some fiberglass and resin over it. Looks won't matter since it is on the underside.

Per my conversation with various managment and service folks at the factory. That layer is only a vapor barrier. It was suggested to seal the crack with eternabond tape or similar.

It doesn’t look like the crack goes all the way through so I wonder if necessary to seal it. If water splashes from the road and some gets through would it get to the flooring?

You might want to drill a small hole on each end to help keep it from spreading, then eternabond tape. Keep an eye on it.

Adding small holes at each end to keep from spreading is a good idea. Eternabond or Flex Tape over the crack will keep dirt and water from getting into the crack. Dirt in the crack when it flexes will slowly make the crack larger. Even if not all the way thru, water can migrate thru the crack and will enable further deterioration of the fiberglass.

As noted, putting a fiberglass patch over the crack is the best solution - but is more work and cost. I never enjoyed working on fiberglass over my head...

Picked up a 6’ strip of Eternabond from dealer will apply when weather cools a bit. Thanks for all suggestions.
