Wimpy bench seats

Noticing that the dinette seats are supported by the thinnest of thin paneling. Has anyone tried to beef them up a bit?

What is their rated capacity?

We've been running those in rental fleets for years with no issues (unless you're jumping down from the bunk...which is why we put a ladder there).

The paneling is supported by cross members and the cushion itself distributes the weight. Unless you're climbing on it without the cushion, we have had 4 guys sitting there, all over 200lbs. I don't know that we have ever rated them...but you can easily add another layer if you're concerned.

I just removed and deconstructed one of the dinette bench seats in my 2009 2900 and once you see how it is constructed on the inside (presuming yours is similar - which I expect it is) you understand how the weight is distributed. Those side panels aren't supporting weight, there are heavier wood supports underneath the thin plywood overlay.

While I wasn't impressed with the attention to detail on my particular bench's construction, (inferior wood, screws not straight, bent brackets) I think the design is solid to support a LOT of weight.

Hope this helps!

I guess we will leave it alone and see how it does.

Thanks!
