Remove the cartridge from filter housing and replace the empty housing. The housing will fill with Anti-freeze before it flows through the rest of the system.

Some people insert an empty water bottle that fits inside the water filter chamber, just to reduce the amount of anti-freeze to fill the chamber. If not, install a screw on replacement where the chamber would be installed to reduce anti-freeze volume also.

Last year I started using small party balloons to fill the space in the filter housing.
Bought a pack of 20 for $1 @ of course the dollar store.
At one a year they’ll probably dry rot before I get to use them all.
Just blow one up tie it off & shove it in. Run your pink stuff & then pop it when done.

X2. Then use the filter housing anti-freeze to pour down your sink\shower traps.

i unscrewed the fittings from each side of the filter and inserted a 1/2" nipple. the fittings are hand tight so it didn't take any time at all.
last year, i used the soda pop bottle method.

Back to the filter question...yes, remove the filter. If you have the tools and have the time, just make a stainless steel bypass plate, similar to this - Water Filter Winterizing By-Pass Plate - FP-WP100 - RV Camper Parts

(no, i don't work for them or promote their website, this is for illustration only)

I've always removed the filter and blow out lines with aid pressure...add pink stuff to drains and a little extra to get to the dump valves.

Have not filled water lines with it......
