winterizing hw heater

Just a thought. I serviced the hw today and wanted to clean the anode. We leave the anode out after cleaning when the coach is off line and cover the hw opening with a screen. I wanted to soak the anode in CLR but could not find anything other than a zip lock. So I built a little soaker stand to cover the entire anode surface and to minumize the fluid they charge so much for..

There is a larger dia hole on the base so the whole tube exits from the bottom.

Haven't figured out how to rotate the pic 90.

I agree....seems like a unnecessary process.

Slime is bad but its most likely from sulpher (hydrogen sulfide) which feeds a bacteria that actually grows on surfaces like tan hairy slime. Bleach will kill it.

Have you checked your water heater tank for that slime?

I agree its to bad you winterized it already it may have needed a nice run of bleach through the system.

Then again being empty for the winter it will all dry out anyways. Just make sure that you do a good sensitization when you bring it back out.

Other then that i just leave them till there is almost nothing left then i toss and buy a new one.

I clean mine also, just use a fine grit sandpaper.
Hog, if I ever break down, I want it to be near your house.

repair not needed

We drain and clean the water systems each time we get home. We are not winterized, in fact at least two more trips remain on the 18 schedule... I 'm the guy who services and washes the road trip car after each trip ready for a short notice launch. Now if I kept my boots by the bed that may be a bit much.. but DW makes me keep them in the laundry room, she just dont get it.
