Wiring too short for Toad Plug Replacement
Though I would post my solution for a problem.
My Toad wiring plug at the hitch needed to be replaced. Just ordered the plug and replace, correct. The inner part would only come out of the socket 1/2" clear. Enough to loosen the screws but, not enough to reconnect the wiring. After thinking about it, I was going to simply cut and extent the harness using connectors and shrink wrap but wanted something better. Came up with this solution and thought I would share.
Purchased a trailer wiring harness with a junction box, 8' of wire with the correct color coding and gauge.
I than mounted the junction box to the inside frame of the RV and wired the junction box.
Cut the mail trailer plug to desired length, a little extra slack for next time. Wired everything back together, closed and labeled the junction box for, he next guy, tested and tied everything back up.
Total time about 2 hours.

I have the same problem as you encountered. This is an excellent solution.

It is supposed to be. The cover overlaps the lip of the box a small bit and comes with wire entry gaskets to replace the plugs. The box has 4 additional wire entry's so you could tap off other wires for other stuff.
Had to the frame to except the self tapping screws for the box. I am thinking looking for insulated metal bands for hanging wire to replace the tie wraps. Probably be better in the long run.

I thought I was OCD...... BUT Garrett...you take OCD to another level.
My only note to you.....the labeling on the junction box says 06 Feb 18.
Did you mean last year or just recently?
You gotta know this is bugging me to know for sure.

I have used dozens of those boxes on trailers and other equipment. They may advertise water proof they are not. Moisture will get in over time, the steel screws and nuts will rust and you will not be able to get them apart to change or add wiring. I always used Trucklite NYK-77 electrical anti corrosion compound just coat everything with it. Another thing I always did was to add a ground from the white wire to the frame at the box. Assuming the white wire was the ground. Poor grounds will drive you crazy trying to find problems. The box is a great place to trouble shoot from.

Great idea. I will get some Trucklite and adding the second ground is sound advise. And SS screws will be used. Thank you.
