XM swap

Next project:

We elected to use the XM roady from the skiff and put it in the JK toad and also use it in the coach when on the road. Without a new hole in the coach roof any ideas of where to put the antenna?

XM swap

After trying a couple different things, I had a "home" kit for an XM radio that included an antenna (about 3 inches square, with hinge to change angle). I placed it on the upper bunk (held in place by a strip of velcro). Usually I have it pointing straight up. Sometimes changing the angle a little or reorienting when parked under trees, etc. It has enough extra wire under the mattress to move it around when using the bunk, etc. It works very well and no holes. Wire under mattress to side then along top of door (under weatherstrip) to windshield, then under dash.

Something similar to this: http://amazon.com/XM-Radio-Universal...indoor+antenna

On my Mazda, I had a magnetic XM antenna and a small steel place that was glued to the dash for the antenna to sit on.

Perhaps you can find a similar magnetic mounted antenna, and then run the wiring in through an existing hole? (Window edge, power awning power cable hole, etc...)

I ran the wire out through the top corner of the slide and placed the antennae on the edge of the roof with double stick tape provided with it. There is just a few inches of thin black wire exposed and don't forget to make a small loop so rain water doesn't follow the wire into the coach. Since it's on the roof it gets a great signal.

RvBill... Does this work while traveling in the coach? Have a home antenna on order from Amz for 6.49. Are you running direct feed (jumper cable) to the dash radio?

Building a wooden plug for the dash cubby hole on the DW side out of 1/4" birch. I will mount the XM roady xt and the second back up camera screen to it.

The antenna works great on the road. Before I had a little magnetic one out on the front fender. It worked most of the time while traveling, except when heading due north when cab over blocked view of satellite. But often when parked, it just wasn't facing the right way. The one I use now works very well. Fiberglass roof does not interfere with signal getting inside to it.

I am using the XM module added to the Magnadyne radio, so it is "permanently" installed behind the radio. If I were using a portable unit, I would hardwire (patch cord) to the AV1 input in the back of the radio.

Have not received it yet but it sounds like a marine xm antenna where a metal reflective base is not use.

just put the antenna on the dash. you do not need to run it anywhere. In the rv my xm antenna sits under the tv next to the receiver. it is not even exposed to the sky and works great. in the car i set the antenna on the dash. no problems.
