I completely agree and it has gotten even worse now that there are video ads to contend with.

I had that happen to me a couple of years ago. It turned out that it helped a lot to abandon Explorer and go to Firefox. Give it a try and see if you get an improvement.

The server is slow, need to upgrade. i have no problem with ads but at the very least put a server farm in that will support the ads.

The new edge browser in Win 10 is pretty fast, testing that. I use either Chrome on Windows or Safari on Mac currently.

Computer speed slowed by advertisements?

My problem is that *#@&^ "Forest River Newsletter" that pops up when I'm trying to log in and cancels out my log in so I have to start over again. That is a real PIA. I even signed up for the thing for a while just to see what it was about, and it still kept coming and interrupting my log-in.

I also use Firefox and add blocker but what will help you the most is bring up the forum and then what I chose to save for a favorite is welcome mat. So now when I go to my favorites on Firefox click on welcome mat and bingo no advertisements ever. Goes right to that topic. Later RJD

I only use the Firefox browser and don't notice any lag or issues. (Always stay up on updates for everything from your O/S to browsers to Adobe and even Java as they often fix issues like this.)

I started having trouble with Firefox, and loaded Google Chrome. Both are good, and gives you the choice of your default browser.

You can use both. Just specify which one you want as your main browser. Later RJD

This is the worst site I visit (but it's my favorite site) on the web as far as advertising and cookies go. I have to clear all of the cookies and cache from Safari at least once a day if I want to participate here. If I don't, the pages have to reload time and time again before it is stable enough to read anything. Once I clear the cookies and cache, I am good for a few hours. This doesn't happen on any other forum or websites I frequent.

Is there an option to be a paid member that will keep me from being attacked by cookies and ads?

Bruce

No you can have multiple web browsers installed on the same machine. When you run one it may try to get you to make it the default but that's an easy issue to fix. (It's, also, pretty easy to export/import your bookmarks from one to the other.)

Ghostery

I've been using Ghostery to block ads. Free for individuals
https://www.ghostery.com/why-ghostery/for-individuals/
It works great and hasn't caused any collateral problems, and allows for selective blocking. It's an add-on for Firefox, Chrome, most others.

NO, don't delete either IE or Firefox. You can alternate between them as necessary.

And as for me, this page loads just fine with IE, but I do use Firefox for some proprietary business software I have to access online.

Since the most recent Apple op system update, had lots of issues with Safari on iPad. Often got "this webpage was reloaded due to a problem" message. Clearing cache, history and cookies would "fix" for a while - then back to the same issue. Found by turning off Java the problem - and the ads - went away. Also the site is MUCH faster. Much better experience on this site. Some other webpages, however, need Java. I have Chrome loaded - which doesn't have the issue - and use it for those sites.

I was waiting for someone to bring this up, they are a PITA, but I figure that's what pays the bills for us to have this for free. I use Chrome and it is a lot better than Internet Explorer, what we always used. The ads are a real pain on EVERYTHING lately, not just this forum!

Agree completely. I have uBlock Origin and Ghostery installed in Chrome to knock out all the ads and trackers. That said, I have both turned off on this site to support it.

Love this community, just hope the site owner can manage to balance the user experience with the need to pay the bills (and maybe make some profit).
