The solution is to clear cache and cookies and then do a restart. It will solve the problem for a while until you surf around the web and pick up the same tracking cookie again.
Cleared cache and cookies and then did a restart of Safari. More adds from google.

Do I have to do a restart of the computer?

This link may help as it explains what it is and how to clear it from android, apple, and/or facebook.

Yes! And I was told it was my iPhone by Support....more than once because they didn’t like me bothering them. I just thought they’d want to know. Guess not.

I still

Don’t see an explanation why this is specifically happening with this forum. In fact it feels like the forum is trying to blame the forum members instead of solving the problem with the forum. Yet we forum members all have two things in common: 1) we are members of this forum, 2) we have had this problem specifically with this forum.

ads hijacking cell phone

I followed the instructions to go to settings, find safari, and clear history. Then turned off phone and turned it back on. Same problem.

Next I went to disconnect.me and lo and behold it worked!
Basic is free.

Thanks for the info folks! DH and I were so frustrated when accessing this forum on our Iphones. Disconnect.me works.

This is certainly logical but is not correct. As indicated in my OP, I did that repeatedly (including complete reboots) and it happens each time. It happened again today coming to the FRF web site from today’s newsletter. There is something infecting the FRF web site and I won’t be visiting it again - only using the app. That’s fine overall, but it means ignoring the emailed newsletter and its links which will be a lost feature.

I’m familiar with that process. As per my OP, this doesn’t work because each time I return to the FRF web site (only), it strikes again. The site is infected now.

Coincidence? Not likely

No issues. Participate in the reserve America thread on this forum. Get a reserve America marketing email. Today I log in to my account at reserve America and I get a pop up you may have won an Apple marketing scam. I don’t think these are coincidental, and am concerned about this forum breeding scams.

iPhone using Safari. Only happens on this site, though I admittedly don't surf on my phone very much. It literally only happens here. I have "cleaned" my phone using the various online instructions several times. Every time I come back here, I get the pop up again.

I agree with the statements that I must have picked up a tracker from some site I visted. I just happen to know the site. It's called Forest River Forums.

I'm guessing it came from one of the paid ads that helps to keep the forum profitable.

Good luck.

iPhone using Firefox and I never get anything like this and I'm on the site very often. I guess my adblocker works!

Oh, yes -- sometimes I use Safari on this phone.

I had the exact same issue while browsing Forest River Forums using Safari on my I-Phone 8. It was a pop-up indicating I'd won a prize to be determined by spinning a wheel. Here's how I got rid of it:

1. Download from the App Store: "Stop Ad"

2. Go to Settings: Safari
- Turn on "Block Pop-Ups."
- Click on "Content Blockers" and turn on "Stop Ad"
- Scroll down and select "Clear History and Website Data."

3. Re-boot phone.

No problems with pop-ups on any website since.

Although clearing history is helpful and works, it requires you do it OFTEN if you visit this forum. Additionally, the point is that visitors to this forum should not have to do this or any other additional work to protect themselves just because they visited the Forest River Forums. This is not the dark web after all.

The bottom line is that visitors are entitled to a safe place here, just like visitors in your home are entitled to a safe place. Someone is injured in your home, YOU are liable and you have to make it right or the courts will force you to do so. This forum is causing injury, the forum has the liability to make it right IMHO, and telling us to buy software and or clear browsers is not “making it right”.
