New Feature: Videos

Hello everyone! I just wanted to announce that we are testing a new feature that allows you to upload videos to your posts. When you click the "Manage Attachments" button, you should see an option to upload a video. Here is a screenshot:

Name:	Capture.JPG
Views:	159
Size:	32.3 KB
ID:	21917

It is also located right under the message area when you are making a new post/thread. If you add a video there, it will start uploading immediately.

I recommend starting with some small videos if possible. The current limit is 500MB for videos.

This is a new feature, and I expect there to be some bugs, so please do not hesitate posting problems that you may be having.

So to launch the first public video here, here you go:

I think this will be a great feature. I don't see a video on Android app though. Should I?

Edit-- 10 AM eastern seems to be a problem. My short video loads about
half way and then won't finish loading. It worked perfectly yesterday when
uploaded to a private moderator discussion so I don't know what's up.
I'll PM the tech admin and let him know.

This was loaded via PC desktop running windows 7.
Here is my wife and I taking a late fall hike in Obannon Woods Indiana
state park. The video was a test of my -new to me- Canon Power Shot
Sx 130. It takes 720P HD video. I used windows 7 movie maker to
lower the resolution on this file from a 60 Meg HD file to the one shown here at only about 5 meg. It still looks pretty good.

Can you see it? NOTE: it typically takes several minutes for the video
window to show after you've posted your message containing the video. IF it
says "video processing" wait a bit and hit reload....

Yeah, we wound up hiking about 6 miles when we started out thinking
this would just be a pre-lunch warm up. The trail was great and weather
was perfect so we just kept walking.

Thanks for the report. I still can't see the 2nd half of the video on my
post #4 below. On post #5 it loads quickly and runs perfectly.
Go figure. Guess they've still got a few bugs to work out.

Maybe some other folks want to give it a spin.
IF you hit "reply" there is an add video button right below the message box.
I suggest lower resolution video that will load quicker for folks on slower
web connections.

OK, I just have to try the new video feature. This was the Whirlpool Jetboat ride we took at Niagara Falls, Ontario, Canada. We are in the back of the boat.

Worked great. Loaded pretty fast.
Looked like fun unless the water was cold which I bet it was!

The water was cold but it was a mostly sunny day so it wasn’t too bad. Those yellow ponchos aren’t waterproof so we were soaked from head to toe by the end of the trip. Fortunately we knew to bring dry clothes that we stored in lockers at the dock. They do offer a dry ride in a glass enclosed jet boat but half the fun was having the water crash down on you as the boat busted through the rapids.

I like the new video feature of the forum.

Great video Bob. I fish in the Niagara River just downstream of the whirlpool. I waved when you went by...did you see me!

This looks like a great feature. Plus, we now know how to "Duck and Cover"!

I am sure the commercial video leadout is a way to pay for the video feature we can now enjoy. Can't get something for nothing!

Dave
I did see someone waving and I would have waved back but I didn't want to release the death grip I had on the boat for fear of flying out.

You sure do live in a beautiful area Dave.
