question - do forum rules allow to post classified without price?

Just curious, noticed several adds in the classified section without a price. Most forums I belong to require a posted price with any classified item. Actually most require a picture as well.

Classifieds Posting Guidelines

The short answer is "no", the forum does not require that ads be written a certain way but I would include both a price and pictures to make it most effective.

Classifieds Posting Guidelines
Our classifieds system is offered as a benefit of membership and no commercial sales are permitted. We expect ads placed to be related to the topic of this forum. Posts in the classifieds section are moderated and will not display until approved by a moderator so please be patient.

Individuals joining the forum for the sole purpose of posting an ad in the classified section will have their posts denied.

* Place only one ad per item - do not post or repost an ad in more than one section of the classifieds.
* Do not place ads directing others to an e-bay or other online sale or directing others to another website.
* Do NOT include your e-mail or phone number in your ad. Rather- request that interested parties contact you via PM (private message).
* Ads may be removed by our staff at any time for any reason.
* If your item has been sold, please post an update to your thread.

got ya. Not sure where the "suggestion box" is located, but maybe this is one idea to throw in there. I admit, huge personal pet peeve to look at add without a price. My mind just screams "rip off."

I agree with both of your suggestions. You're "preaching" to the choir - so to speak

Maybe we consider these for the guidelines. I'll kick it over to the other mods.

Right now, we moderate the ads for a few basic things, but not sure we want to go into what has to be included (we're volunteers after all and time is limited).

At a certain point, you gotta figure a seller would want to include things like price, pics, town and state just to make it a better ad.

agree whole heartily. I figured since you all review the adds before posting, there were some things you were looking for.

Might lesson your load if members over a certain post count did not have to be reviewed. Less probability of breaking forum rules if they have been around a while.

Can you tell I moderate a forum?

I vote with my feet.

1) I would not buy anything without seeing what I am getting.
2) A price is nice (but don't put it in the title - only a moderator can edit it) and if I am interested I will ask if it is missing. Posts cost nothing.

jeeplj8,

Just letting you know that we discussed this thread and decided to append some hints to the guidelines (e.g., don't forget to include a price, etc).

We decided not to further moderate ads beyond the basics right now (no commercial sales, etc) thinking its up to the member posting to include the kinds of info that make an ad effective.

Thanks again for the suggestions.

great - I think that helps forum members to post more effective adds and those perusing the adds as well.
