Show Location in Profile

Is there any reason that some people do not include their location in their profile......Sometimes it would be very helpful to answer their ???'ns when I know where they live i.e. USA or Canada for example,,,north, south, east or west or state or province???????????????? Maybe everyone should be encouraged to update their profiles to include this info....What do others think????J

Some, I assume, are more private than others. Some don't know how and some haven't thought about it. I enjoy seeing where posters are from.

You asked... so here's what I think. A personal profile is a personal thing. Members should put in their profile whatever they like (good taste taken into consideration). If I'm having a problem towing my trailer up a mountain in Colorado, USA and ask for help, having the fact that I'm located on a flat spot in north central Texas, USA won't help the helper a bit. If a member is asking for location dependent help, he/she should comment in his/her post what is his/her current location. Just my 2¢ USD.

I have always been pretty protective of my location. Side effect of my job... But I have loosened up quite a bit on here. There is most likely no one on here I would not invite over for dinner.

... and I see that you don't have your location in your avatar block nor signature which suits me just fine.

An area of a state seems enough to me as well. If someone wants to show a city, that is up to them, but does not seem necessary to me. I also enjoy seeing where the posters are from.

You have to balance/remember your personal info when you message. If your name and city Google's your address, you might not want to discuss current and pending travels. Unless perhaps it's something like "we will be gone all summer to escape the heat here in Texas but my two sons are back from the police academy and are going to stay at the house until we get back"

Theft plain & simple if you mention you are in Goshen for the week & your profile says you live in Eagle Rock, VA it could be real easy for a thief to figure out where you live if you put too much info in your public profile. you could come home to an empty house.

Good points...

We leave 2 pair of muddy size 16 boots at the door and a note that tells our buddies to wait on porch till we get back, we are gone to buy ammo... and warning them not to come in the house... since we are already in trouble for our dogs chewing the leg off someone who came in the house last week

Its in my profile which is what the op asked about. I like to change avatar occasionally to suit current events and such. Shoot, I'm so easy to find a Google search will give my address and and phone numbers. Counter measures are in place.

I made the comment I did because of the fact that many members here think their avatar IS their profile. Someone is always posting "I changed my profile pic but I can't get it to display next to my name in my posts."
