To Admins: Corrupted File

Didn't mean to make this a thread but didn't know how to contact admins... This morning I clicked on a thread titled "Black vs Grey" and a corrupted version of Flashplayer was forcefully loaded onto my Apple notebook. I ran my virus protection app and the bad file has been quarantined but thought someone on FRF should be aware.

Do you have a link to the thread? Or at least remember which sub-forum it was located in? I searched and there are a lot of threads with the words "black" and "grey" in them but none with the specific wording of "black vs grey".

The nearest thing I can find to your description is this, but could not find any links in the thread:

Found it in my history list: http://www.forestriverforums.com/for...ml#post2081244

The quarantined file is titled: Player.dmg

Interesting. I opened it up and it just looks like a normal thread. I don't see any links or images in it at all.

The .dmg extension is something specific to Macs.

I usually have several sessions open at a time and it may be that the forced download was simply coincidental right as I clicked on the thread, but did not come from FRF.

Thanks for checking.

I don't believe the OP said there was something in that thread. He wrote "a corrupted version of Flashplayer was forcefully loaded onto my Apple notebook."

Iwritecode's comment "The .dmg extension is something specific to Macs." tells me the issue is not directly related to FRF.

I just clicked on that thread again twice and cannot replicate the problem.

My apology for causing you guys to chase something that wasn't there.

Flash players are well known for their potential corruption.

I am getting that too on a laptop running Windows 10 from another website. It took me to another web page to install the new version of flashplayer, the only out was to close the browser. I suspect that we both have some malware that we picked up but so far I have not been successful in cleaning it out. It has been over a week, perhaps I got lucky.

While on this subject...

Apple experts advise to NEVER to click on any Flash player link. Go directly to the Adobe website for any Adobe products by typing in the URL.

I have some experience in this field. What is most likely happening is that a rogue ad is propagating the malware. The forum admins won't be able to prevent it, but the owning company can contact their ad aggregators and report the problem.

Unfortunately malicious ads are not uncommon.
