2 year journey

Hello All,
I have learned a lot about travel trailers and specifically Forest River TT's from this Owners Group and wanted to say thanks. Now, we are embarking on a 2 year trip across the US in our WindJammer and I am certain I will be needing even more advice as we travel.

Today is our launch day from the San Francisco Bay Area, headed east to Washington DC. Looking forward to meeting you on the road!

First, LOL @ 2 years. We embarked on a 14-month trip 12-months ago. By month 4 or so, we realized that we needed way more time to see everything we wanted and to spend more time at each destination.

Second, just realize that you're no longer camping. You're living in a camper. It's quite a different mindset.

Third, know that your camper isn't designed to be lived in. Little things will crop up- stupid stuff like you never thought of.. for instance, I've replaced 5 sets of drawer hardware in our bunkhouse and have fixed the bottoms of 2 different drawers that fell/broke out. BUT- it's worth it. We have a great time with it.

Thanks everyone, we are in a bit of a rush to get to Washington DC for a wedding so I have not had much time for internet or anything else besides driving and trying to get the WJ packed. We kind of threw everything we needed into it and left. We had renters coming in on July 1st and totally misjudged how long it would take to clear out our house for them... So far the trailer has held up well for the 1st 1200 miles. Once we get to DC and the wedding, we will really be on our trip and take our time and see as many sites as possible. Ependydad, Yup, you are right, I already can tell we are going to need more time, just driving takes longer than I expected and we keep passing things that we would like to check out. Hopefully we will see all of our main points of interest over the 2 years.

Once we get into the sightseeing part of our trip I will definitely post pics.
Thanks all for the advice and kind words,
GECTisMe
Jody

We were in Cheyenne WY last week, stayed one night at the Terry Bison Ranch RV park. The RV park was OK and the facilities were clean. Easy to get in and out as they were almost all pull throughs. They had a train ride that took us around the park and made a stop where they are some Bison, the kids got to feed them, (I did too). They also had horseback riding so my daughter did that.

We were also in St louis last week, the RV Park we wanted to stay at was booked so we stayed across the Mississippi river in Illinois at Cahokia RV Parque, it was OK for 3 days while I worked. If you are interested in the wireless coverage, it was good, 3 bars and had 6mb download and 5mb upload on the Verizon Hot Spot. They have a very good BBQ restaurant on site and the facilities were clean and the pool was small but clean. They have a large field at the back side where we could let our dog off leash and run, that was a definite plus, she is a German Shep / Lab mix so she needs a big place to run. Not the best breed to bring along on a 2 year trip but she has been good and kids would have revolted if we didn’t bring her.

Went to St Louis to check out the Gateway Arch and take a Mississippi River Boat cruise.

I loved the Cahokia Indian Mounds. I'm still fascinated that they moved all of that dirt one backpack at a time.

Where to next?

Thanks, Cherry Hill Campground is our next stop, we have a wedding to go to and then sight seeing. Nice to hear you give it a thumbs up.

We are at Thousand Trails Chesapeake Bay right now, I haven't had time to post pics but hope to in the next day or so. So far I like this campground and the Verizon LTE has been fast enough for me to work. Today there have been a few slow downs, under 1mb up and down but it seems to fix itself in 1/2 hr or so. No issues with it at all yesterday, 6mb down and 4mb up.

after your wedding if you want to come far eat you should check out the resort at masseys landing in millsboro delaware. i could show you around the local restraunts that have fresh food and great entertainment. that will put the the farthest east besides the southern states.
