I flew control line in the early 70’s, and R/C from 75 to ~ 85. Regarding power, I did some pylon racing, but no aerobatics. My speciality was glider comps.

I did the control line thing too back in the 60’s... It’s actually making a comeback from what I hear!
Most people think gliders or sailplanes are just slow graceful flights.. Have you ever done any of the high speed stuff?
I could not handle flying anything this fast or even half as fast...

Yep built and flew both full scale (power) and RC (gliders, electric gliders, electric heli's, sailboats) up until about 10 years ago. Hope to get back into it when I move out of the very restrictive county I live in now (RC of any kind is only allowed at the few clubs we have here, and I am not a "club" kind of person with all the cliques and infighting).

It amazing the speeds attainable in dynamic lift, but I don’t think my eyes are up to the challenge these days . I was more into harnessing lift, so all our comps were thermal duration or precision duration, similar to what is called F3J nowadays. It’s amazing how all aspects of RC has advanced over the last thirty years, and I do miss flying; thinking of buying a small HLG or DLG (discus launch glider) to pack in the RV.

We had a pretty good season. Made it to 7 contests and way more practice flights than I care to count. Fortunately, I had a flying field between my house and work so I was able to practice a couple times a week. Unfortunately, the "executive" board of the club decided that "sequence" flying was detrimental to the rest of the fliers and banned it. SOOOOO, I'm out. Funny thing, I'm the only one in the club that competed, everyone else was punching holes in the sky.
Sucks for them, I won 5 contests and finished 2nd in the other two. Ended up winning the Championship. Have a new place to fly, but not convenient from work.

Not sure where I was going with this except "big brother" takes all shapes.

Sounds like a millennial's running shop..."Like....We won't put the practice in to get good, so like, we're gonna ban you from getting good by, like limiting your practice time..."

I'd pull my membership from that club in a heartbeat.

RC is fun but no matter what platform you run, you need remote time to get better.

Me and about 11 other people "walked". Really too bad, it is a great flying site with a lot of infrastructure. Just poor management.

Mine are flying but not very high lol. I've been into R/C for quite a while, used to race 1/10 offroad trucks, but for the last 10 years or so I've been building and racing R/C hydroplanes.
Last year we traveled from Calgary to the Las Vegas Supernationals, a week of R/C boat racing and had an amazing time.

Liking the boats and planes, but I stay in dry ground. I take this 1:12 scale R/C setup with us when we go camping. Big hit when I drive it around the park [emoji16]

Obviously late to the party here. I've been flying RC for nearly three and a half years now. I have the DJI Spark and Mavic 2 Zoom drones, an ever-growing hangar of RC planes, and a couple of nano helicopters. Those helis are the toughest to fly.

We have a guy in our RC club that bought a travel trailer. After one trip in it, his wife said she did not enjoy staying in the trailer, so now he uses it to bring his planes out to the flying field. Fortunately, I already know my wife enjoys trailer camping, so that won't be a worry for us.

Here's a "group photo" I took of the planes that I had last year. A few more have been added since this shot was taken. They're kind of addicting.

I see you are out west... lots of unobstructed space to fly those things out there... I cannot fly my GPS guided drone in my yard because of all the tree obstructions to the signal in the summer... I live in a rather small valley.

Nice little squardon you got there Hoomi! I want to start flying my DJI again. I lost interest after the FAA said we had to register them as aircraft. Good grief. Another tax.

I was going to start going through the course to get my Part 107 Certification early last year, then the FAA closed all the testing centers for Covid. I need to see if they're open again, and get back going through the course. I really didn't want to go through it, if I was going to have to wait several months or more before I could take the test. I'd rather the material still be fairly fresh in my mind.

Here's one of the first videos I put together with my Mavic 2 Zoom. This was pretty much the first time I tried tracking a moving subject, so not as smooth as I'd really like, but the Mavic still performed nicely.

I flew R/C airplanes years ago until the full scale bug bit. Got commercial pilots license and flew 1,500 hours in single and multi. Hung up my spurs in 2015.

I'd love to fly full size aircraft, but just can't see investing the cost of flying lessons for what would be just a hobby.

The nice thing about flying models is, when you crash, it's not that big a deal!

Yes but there is a lot more motivation to keep it in the air when you're in it.

Well done! Looked liked a snake crossing the desert! Makes me want to start flying again.
