You should come to the Atlanta area - there are more breweries here than I could name. According to DH (the resident beer drinker), some of them are quite good.

My beer take

I have been all over the past 20 years. First of all, draft craft beer is where it’s at. If you can get it canned or in a growler do it. From Washington, Oregon, Colorado, New Mexico, Georgia, Texas, Louisiana, Wisconsin, New York, and Michigan my hat has to go with Michigan for craft beers. Colorado is great for canning your beer, and most places have growlers. But the three outstanding craft beers I have had is from Georgia, Teragon brewery, their Christmas Stout, from Colorado a brew pub in Telluride called Smugglers, their classic high octane brew is served in a eight ounce goblet. But my number one craft brew is from Michigan. I had several at The Hofbrough in Innerlocken Michigan. Here is the number one in my book.
Bells Whiskey Barrell Aged Cherry Stout
Stout · 10.9% · Comstock, MI

But the lunch at St. Arnolds in Houston is three hours of open tap with a three course meal for 21 dollars ain’t bad.

That Ben Franklin mis-quote has been misused for a long, long time. He actually said that about grapes and wine. But that's another thread.

Tasty Brews in and around Happy Valley

If you are camping around Central (the real Central) PA e.g., at Bellefonte KOA or Seven Mountains you have several options. Otto's has 7 year-rounds plus seasonal selections. I like the Slab Cabin IPA, wife likes the Apricot Wheat. Happy Valley and Robin Hood breweries opened recently. A little bit out of town is Elk Creek Cafe in Millheim. Great beer, food and live jazz.

For the harder stuff, two distilleries recently opened; Barrel 21 in State College and Big Spring Spirits in Bellefonte. They are both a lot of fun.

Uber service is excellent all around the region if you want to give the TOAD a night off!

Every trip the DW and I take we use Google to find the nearest brew pub in the town we are staying at. Most recent find was Mt. Rushmore Brewery and Pub in Custer, SD. Firehouse Brewery in Rapid City, SD is pretty good too. I have noticed when traveling that different parts of the country have different styles of beer. My favorite brews are from Alaska Brewery out of Juno. Their Alaskan Amber and White Ale are my number one choice when I can find them outside of Buffalo, NY. Ditto to polishdon, one of the early posts on this thread, and some of the excellent breweries and pubs in the Buffalo area. On the back window of my RV I have an oval sticker for 42 North, 42N, out of East Aurora, NY, 20 miles or so from Buffalo. Don't care for a lot of the high alcohol (APV) crafts, nor IPA's. Amber's, Whites, a good Porter and some oatmeal stouts work for me. On an overall bunch of brew styles besides the Alaskan's my wife and I really like the Michigan Brews batch of beers. Saugatuck Brewery, Saugatuck, MI makes a killer white that I wish I could find locally. And finally, double ditto's to the post about Omagang in Cooperstown, NY. Concerts by A class national groups, fun fun brewery, several good beers, great nearby camping, "the blues train", Cooperstown Brewery where the bathroom is lined ceiling to floor with beer, and the Baseball Hall of Fame. Great weekend destination if you haven't been there.

I do like Founder's. I try to search out their KBS tapping time at the various beer fests.

They aren't. Some are closing because of the saturation.

I am at my vacation house in South Lake Tahoe. In the last couple years we have had around 5 pop up along with numerous tap houses that serve craft beer. A wonderful thing. I was laughing at the woman who came into the one tap house and was upset that they didn't have budweiser on tap!

There are still more opening than closing but I believe that bubble is going to burst soon. Despite the growth in market share for craft beer overall beer sales remain flat or are even declining slightly. Increased competition and debt will be downfall of many.

Beer

Fascinating! Perhaps this topic should be it's own category. Migrating out of Lifestyles...
