Crock Pot Cooking?

I've read about using crock pots to prepare meals while on the road which sounds like a great idea but does one have to run the generator while moving to do so?

I guess it would depend on how your camper is set up. Do you have an inverter that will convert 12v to 120v? Also, how many batteries do you have and are they charged by the engine when travelling? I guess it would also depend on how long a trip you are taking. A lot of questions that need to be answered. Not sure how a Georgetown is set up so can't really answer your question. I'm sure someone here will be able to help you.

Uhhh.... I think it's probably a negative on the inverter but don't know for sure. There are 2 batteries for the coach and I believe they can be charged from the engine. I know the engine battery can be "boosted" from the coach batteries.

Now... off to research inverters!

Karen, Yes it can be done but need a few reminders.

If you have a 800 watt or higher crock pot this may start poping fuses due to the high voltage it will draw. It won't be so bad at 500 and under. Second do not leave the crock pot plugged in while batteries are not being charged. Excessive discharge will shorten life and being you have a Georgetown I am sure your batteries are a few hundred dollars.

The nice OPTION for invertors is that most will kill power if under a certain voltage. Now I have never tested this option but make sure to get it so in case you "Forget" you don't come back to dead batteries. Deep cycle batteries should not be run under 40% capacity left. It's hard on them after that.

Over all I don't think it's a bad idea at all.

We have done it several times and it works out great. But our generator runs from the time we leave until we pull back in the driveway so it's pretty easy for us.
