Golf cart and trailer? Worth the investment?

I would still be within my weight limit. The problem with that lies in my topper...

I saw a rack mounted over top of the CAB of a truck out in the parking lot for an RV show in Northern Virginia 2 years ago. We didn't see what they haul up there nor how in the world they got it up there (looooooooooooooooong ramps!). But, it definitely stuck in my head.

We bought our cart before we ever bought our first camper. We used to either tent camp, or rent a cabin at our resort, but the cabin rental started getting expensive, and more of a hassle than tent camping. We bought our first camper used, and it was not in the greatest shape, but we parked it on a seasonal site, so it didn't matter, since we didn't plan to tow it anywhere. When we bought the new camper, we opted for a toy hauler so we could be mobile, and still take the cart with us. Plus it makes a nice place to keep the cart out of the elements during the winter. The cart is well worth the investment, as far as towing options, I don't know that I can offer much, other than to suggest a toy hauler, but it sounds like that is not an option either, since you already have your camper.

I have thought about removing the top and selling it and carry the cart in the back of the truck. But I like the looks or that HD cover. What kinda price is on that thing?

Not sure if you realize it or not? Your cart would not fit in the back of your short bed truck without the tailgate down. Before you go that route and sell your cap, make sure you can turn without the tailgate hitting the trailer jack.

I have about 6" to spare with the gate closed in the long bed with my cart. My buddy has the 5.5' bed on his Dodge Ram and hauls his cart with the gate opened, he had to cut and move the propane tanks back and switched to the 20# bottles. He also made a mount for a removable hitch jack welded to the frame. Works well for him so it is "do-able" with the short bed with MODS.

On a much smaller note then actually getting the cart there, last week while camping I noticed they were asking for proof of insurance on the golf cart! Not sure if that applies most places or not.

Have to admit I was quite jealous of the tricked out carts cruisin around while I drove our rental! Haha!

Some campgrounds in Ohio require insurance on the cart.
I got liability from Progressive for $75.00 / year.
Never know when the older boy will run into a truck or TT.

Link in my sig should have pics of my old setup with shortbed Chevy and golf cart. I would have to remove the tailgate and leave it home. I also bought a longer shank for an extra couple of inches of clearance. Never had any issues, but had to sell the cart when I got the fiver. Still crying over that, and still trying to come up with a way to get a cart down the road with me.

Insurance for your cart is a good idea, required or not! Mine is $75 a year through Allstate.

You could go seasonal and golf cart your head off. You can ride around, go golfing, participate in golf cart parades, golf cart off-roadin', golf cart poker runs, etc. etc.
It's one of the benefits. When you do go away on a trip, it won't be that important because you'd have had your share of golf cartin'. Just my two cents on an advantage of seasonal camping.

Before you buy, make sure you know the rules at your favorite campgrounds.
I.e.; Ft wilderness and Ocean Lakes only allow electric carts, I've run across others as well. Almost all the campgrounds we go to with either of our carts require proof of insurance. To avoid any arguments I'll just say that liability insurance with your carrier shold be under 100.00 per year. Both our golf carts are gas powered. An electric cart can weigh up to 3-400 lbs more than a gas cart. A standard gas golf cart weighs in about 600 and 800 lbs.
We have a toy hauler the we bring the cart with us. I've only had one place in Galesburg, IL tell me that I cant take the cart out of the trailer, we wont go there anymore.

I didn't realize there was that much of a difference in weight. I knew the electric was heavier but didn't know buy as much as 300+. I would much rather have an electric for the noise level. I have 4 acres of land at home with quite a few local deer running around. ( I'm in the city limits so no hunting ). Last time I got a good count was 16. But there have been a few hit on the road plus a few births that I know of. Anyway back to subject. That is one of the main reasons for the quieter electric cart.

I go to Fort Wilderness 4 times a year as I live in the area and it's always a great time. I always see some big gas powered monsters being brought in by guests and have never heard/seen anyone told they couldn't. I bring my electric all the time and have never been asked for insurance; ever.

Unfortunately, for the longest time, it was the only campground we ever went to. When we finally went somewhere else it was a bit of a let down...
