ladder to the roof
We just bought a Lacrosse 318BHS and I was wondering if it is worth while to put a ladder on it. There are no guard rails on the top of the TT so it wouldn't be good for kids but do any of you use your TT roof to sit on ... sunbathe on ... Are there any other reasons why a person would want a ladder to get on the roof or is it a waste of money?

It's not living space up there, but you need to access the roof for maintenance, inspection, cleaning and to clean off the top of the slideouts if you don't have slide toppers before the slides are brought in (I'm on our roof every trip).
I don't believe that Prime Time offer roof ladders as an option and therefore, there may not be mounting blocks inside the exterior walls to attach one.
If you need to access the roof, you'll have to use a conventional ladder or something similiar.

Thanks. I am having the dealer look into it tomorrow and he will give me a price on the ladder (if it can be installed) and on the slide toppers. No idea what they will cost in Vancouver, Ca but I'll find out soon.

Several PT owners on this forum have checked with Prime Time and they don't place the necessary blocking in the wall to install a ladder. So a ladder installation isn't possible.
You do need some type of ladder for the reasons Dave mentioned.

When I purchased this last camper, a ladder was a must have and ranked at the top of my list for the reasons mentioned above. My second item was a floor plan that put distance and sound barriers between the bedroom and living room since I am an early riser. The top of my wife's list was slide in the bedroom.

A ladder wasn't even on my want list, but now that I have one it sure is nice. No more dragging out ladder and the one mounted on the TT is so much easier to get on the roof with.

I've owned tt's with the ladder and it does come in handy. It is nice to have, but the number of times a year that I need to get on the roof isn't very many so it wasn't a deal breaker for me.

It is unfortunate that Prime Time chose to not put the blocking in the wall for the ladder just in case people wanted one. The built in ladder is much more safe than leaning one up against the camper, not to mention potential damage to the roof edge.
Is it just a money-saving measure, or is the roof too weak to support much weight, and so they eliminate the ladder to discourage people going up there?

So it looks like installing a ladder is out. I think that the roof is solid enough as the brochure says you can walk on it. I saw pictures of 3 people standing on the slide out to show how tough it is. I have a telescoping ladder which will work fine to take with me on trips.

You will find that the slide toppers are great. They keep the tree branches off plus you are less likely to have a leak in the slide out with the toppers installed. You could check the prices at Camping World. It is not that far from Vancouver to US. The saving could be $$$. You could make and appointment with Camping World and have them installed while you wait.
