My "Home" from Jun 3 through Jun 7
My Afternoons:
My "Neighbors":
They kept to themselves but their presence was known. Here's a stump that was recently stripped so they could enjoy the "bug buffet" below the bark. Note the claw marks:
#1 Son joined me for a couple nights. He worked on his hobby while I worked on mine. He's built a scale model RC "Rock Crawler" and was like a kid at Disneyland at this campground.
Campground is in the midst of an "Old Growth Forest". This tree is just one of the large trees. About 300 feet tall and the base is just under 6' in diameter.
The Forest Service had removed some "dangerous" trees just before opening the campground for the season and bucked up the log lying across this campsite. I split enough for my needs and left some for the next campers.
Deep in the forest but still was able to "harvest" some solar energy. From noon to around 4 PM this "beach" was the only place with direct sun and I got around 20 amp hours of power replaced on the two days it was sunny. Next two days I just got my panels washed by the rain .
I only had one other camper in the campground while staying there. Beautiful campground but it has no water (other than the stream), electricity, or sewer (other than vault toilets). I think the reason more aren't using it is the road in. The last miles before the campground look like this:
This campground was cut off from the rest of the world for over 11 years due to a flood. Re-opened in 2014 and I think that was the last time the Forest Service ran a grader down this road. To transit the last 5 miles I found it necessary to put the truck in 4WD Lo and just idle along at 2-3 mph, slowing even more as I passed over the potholes. Some were deep enough that the tire over the hole was held off the bottom of the hole by the tire on the other axle. This way I kept all the food in the refrigerator and all the dishes in the cupboard.
When I return in the fall I will spend another week. With the extra effort required to get to the campground I don't want to go to the trouble for just a night or two.
Where? Buck Creek Campground in the Mt Baker/Snoqualmie National Forest.

Otter Lake Campground in PA. We spent this weekend there and left the camper there for the week and will be back on Friday for next weekend. They only charge $10 to leave camper on the site for the week. They stop doing the gas saver deal I think next week. Then they start it again end of September. Perfect weekend weather and great times. Cant wait to get back Friday after work.

Here are a couple pictures where we went to Lake Arrowhead in Montello WI on Memorial day weekend. It was a nice campground with lots of activities for the kids. Lake Puckaway was just a short walk away where you can rent boats or fish. We thought the guys hats were hilarious (Typical Wisconsin!). Last weekend we went to Blue Mound state park. There were great hiking trails and the only state park with a swimming pool. I finally used my flipper from Forest River! A town just a couple minutes away was a troll capitol of the world. The Grumpy Troll brewery has great Beer! Friday night we had a Luna moth stop by. It was huge, a once in a lifetime to see one of those. The kids loved it!

I showed this to my wife. Looks very interesting. We will be up that way possibly in the next few years.
My folks are originally from Seattle and I spent over 20 summers up that way. Looking forward to getting back.

Just plug in the GPS coordinates and you'll be there. Be sure to reserve ahead on whatever website the Forest Service is using and try to get site #25 which is the only "beach front" site.
Be prepared to totally "un-plug" as there's no TV, Cell Service, and the only Radio Station you can get is an FM station that runs the same NPR program all day long, hour after hour after hour
I bring books but find that while sitting and reading the sound of the creek tends to put me to sleep

We are used to unplugging. The only time I need cell service is to check up on my vacation rental occasionally.
