We spent July 1-6 at Charlestown State Park, Indiana. This is Site 120, which is huge (and FHU), and was great for a three-year-old who likes to run around.

The headwater campground has direct access onto Douglas Lake, including a beach area and pavilion. Playground is only on the tailwater side though, if you have kids. The CG hosts are really great folks. Pretty sure it's first come, first serve on sites, no reservations.

We just drove through there on the 4th to check it out, there are a couple nice spots where I think we will fit
It is first come, first serve and that's really the only downside I could see to the place.

I talked to the host while there and 30 day max and then have to be out for a certain amount of days, I want to say it was 14 days out before returning.

Always looking for places in the So. Cal area. How far in advance did you have to make reservations?

We original made the reservation earlier in the year I believe February for Memorial Day weekend however, we sold are old TT and ordered a new Rockwood 2703 and it wasn't ready by that weekend so Pinezanita let us move the reservation to the 4th of July weekend so we didn't lose our deposit so everything worked out...I think you can make the reservation up to a year in advance we departed on Monday, July 6th and the campground was pretty empty so I believe it's more of a weekend destination we enjoy going there it's quiet and the lower sites are large and have plenty of room although they don't have sewer hookups. The campground does have some quirks no showers or restrooms in the lower level just a port a potty and they charge $3.00 per day per dog but all in all a nice place to stay. Check out their website for more information

It is a Clam:

Amazon.com: Clam Corporation 9281 Quick-Set Escape Shelter, 140 X 140-Inch, Forest Green: Patio, Lawn & Garden

It is pricey but well worth it. There are no poles or anything to put together and I can set it up by myself in less than 30 seconds. It has done well in both sun and rain, although it can get a little stuffy inside when it gets hot outside. We had three people stop by the campsite to ask about it this weekend.

Here is a Youtube video that shows more about it:

Looks awesome. If our existing canopy fails I'll be buying one of these.

July 4th Cayucos, CA

Our usual fireworks show in Cambria was canceled this year due to so many dead pine trees. We drove 10 miles south and set up in a pullout just north of Cayucos. We got there at about 8 am and there were already 2 rigs parked where we wanted to be! But we could see the show off the end of the pier and the gang had a great time!

Well, I thought I was posting a photo, but this site wants a URL. What's up with that?

And my profile photo isn't showing either! What happened? My profile settings all seem to be OK.

Well it wasn't a camp ground, and it doesn't show my camper that was parked out back, but here is the view from the fire pit at my cousins camp where 20 family and friends stayed for 4 days to celebrate the 4th of July. Next Thursday I'll be at a campground for another 4 days. This time I'll set evert hung up and get pics with new camper and gear that is driving me broke this year.

We're Lighthouse keepers volunteers at Hunting Island (SC) State Park, where we're camping in their maritime forest. A great site for a great summer.

If you look closely, right in the middle of the picture you can see the lighthouse.
