Started the New Year at Highlands Hammock SP in Sebring, FL site #4 .... packed on NYE, cleared out the next day with cold rainy weather moving in. Great place to bicycle & hike.
Third pic is our 'view' of the new year, fourth pic was an attempt by the park service to give a tram tour but the truck broke down & the final pic was Jan 2.... packed campground down to this.
Snowbirds should check this campground out for a place to stay.

Second half of the first camping trip of 2018 was at Koreshan Historical State Park in Estero, FL site #31. Perfect cooler weather (high 40's at night, high 60's by day). No rain so lots of hiking & biking as well as a tour of the very odd settlement that had led to this park as a donation by a religious sect.
Famous people donated cool invasive species of plants (huge bamboo in the mix of palms as well as monkey puzzle trees ...even after Irma downed the big one). The last picture is of the Unity globe ... the earth wrapped around the sky .... bizarre story.

The bamboo forest at Koreshan is cool. Headed back there for a few days in March.

1st timers over New Years - Cedar Hill State Park

We are first time owners and decided to take our new trailer out over New Years. Cedar Hill State Park, low 30s with overnight low of 18. Had a blast learning and enjoying the time together as a family. Woke up to ice and snow New Years day but the trailer worked like a champ. Already planning our next trip out.

I guess I'll be the first to remind everyone in this new thread... PLEASE post the City & State along with the campground name in your posts. It sure helps if we know where these places are located.
Thanks!

Let's see your 2018 campsites!!

I posted these pull-thru pics on the 2017 thread since we got here on 12/31 but since we’ve stayed for 2 weeks and it’s now 2018, I’ll repeat them.

We leave tomorrow from Breezy Hill RV Park in Pompano Beach, FL.

First, we were in a horrid pull-thru for the first 6 nights. Absolute puts and parking spots and terrible-ness.

Front-side, I put an orange cone down at our rear steps to help our front-side neighbor not trip coming out of their door.

And here’s the back-side when I got neighbors. Yes, our slides actually overlap. You had to zig-zag to walk between the rigs.

The neighbor got really lucky he didn’t take out the site # post with his slide. He had extended them and then backed up so his sewer hose would reach (centered in the parking pad to the far rear).

On Saturday, they moved us early to our back-in site. The challenge here was getting into it. They spots are flag pole layouts meaning there’s a site in the front left and one in the rear right. The rear right has a long driveway.

The good, my neighbor gladly moved his truck. If he hadn’t, there’s no way I would have even been able to attempt it.

Between the front side rig sticking out to the road, a light pole on the other side, and a motorcycle across the street- parking was an event. Add that we had 5-6 watchers congregated and chittering to each other in French as we parked, a good time was had by all.

We came close to giving up and someone went looking for the owner of the motorcycle. See the covered bike here (thing in black):

You can see my daughter keeping a watchful eye. I say I came within a foot or two, she says 6-8”. Our mantra is “close is OK, contact is not”. The neighbors never found the owner but wife and I got the rig slide back in any how.

Here’s what the front looked like after the neighbor brought his truck back.

The good part is, our yard is actually quite nice and there is a big patio. (Painted cement, though- so it’s slick when wet... which was many days of our stay! Only 1 fall and it was the 5 year old, thankfully!)

The good: the staff of the park have been incredibly friendly. I dealt with the maintenance man when we got here and found our pull-thru spot was already taken. We dealt with the front desk staff 3-4 times to get us settled any while English wasn’t their first language, they spoke it fluently and were friendly.

The pool area appears nice and there are a lot of activities.

The bad: we paid for 11 nights: 1 week of the weekly rate and 4 nights at daily rates. The nightly total averaged $72/night. We then stayed 4 additional nights for $0 using the Trails Collection program with Thousand Trails. My total average ended up being $52/night for the 15 nights that we are spending here. ($50/night is the upper end of my budgeted average.)

All of the sites here are this snug and many worse. Friends kissed a fence trying to get back into their site today. [emoji20]

That said, I had a heck of a time finding availability at any park reasonably close to Delray Beach, FL where we had friends who we were trying to be near. And most of those parks were $90/night for the few nights they had available.

We lost water twice. Electric flickered once.

Music at surrounding sites has been loud quite a few nights until close to midnight. There’s a sister campground just behind our site (with a white fence in between) that has had music also playing there (which I can hear right now at 10:50pm) and has had barking dogs for long periods during the day. The RV park office is staffed 9-5 M-F with no indication how you would find someone in the off hours except for the maintenance guy. (Who in my 2 calls was courteous and helpful each time!)

All told- this hasn’t been our favorite 2 weeks.

The upside: we spent great time with friends. Swimming in the ocean in January is AWESOME. The weather was unusually cool but we lucked into great beach weather yesterday.

My son and I took a trip to Mt. Airy North Carolina. My daughter got the flu so my wife stayed home with her. It was cold this weekend so we stayed inside a lot and watched movies and football. We are at Mayberry Campground in site 32. Low teens this morning.

It’s a regular full hookup site. Looks small from above but actually quite large.

That's really a coincidence. We stayed at that campground in that exact same spot as a layover on our way down to Florida over Christmas!

A very nice place.
