I don't care what it's called- as long as it tastes like the margaritas that I get from restaurants!

I assume "add ice" means on the rocks, not crushed up + smoothy style?
And no thanks for the beer margarita. I had one of them in Alabama and hope to never have another.

[QUOTE=ependydad;513318]My problem with alcohol is I can't mix it right! I so rarely drink and only when I have a friend there - booze lasts years in my house
Try a better tequila. Get you some Don Julio. I have spent a lot if time in Mexico and the Mexicans don't drink Cuervo. There much better tequilas out there. The Mexicans call Cuervo "gringo" tequila.
Once you try Don Julio or other premium brand tequilas you probably won't go back to Cuervo.

My family drank a bunch of Patron Gold which was tasty. I just didn't want to spring for that much money this time around.
I haven't been able to fully figure out the maker of the 1800 stuff that I bought.

This is supposedly the Classic Margarita...
Ingredients
2 ounces silver tequila
1 ounce Cointreau (orange liqueur)
1 ounce lime juice
Glass Type: cocktail glass
Instructions
Shake well with cracked ice, then strain into a chilled cocktail glass that has had its rim rubbed with lime juice and dipped in coarse salt.
A note on the tequila: It should be 100 percent agave, the plant from which the stuff is traditionally made. Save the great golden añejos for sipping.
A note on the Cointreau: It yields results clearly superior to triple sec, most brands of which are marred by an unpleasant chemical aftertaste.

awwall, that was essentially the recipe I followed except that I used a gold tequila (I thought I was getting an agave tequila).
I did spring for a $40 bottle of Contreau.

try this... salt the rim of the glass or cup your going to drink out of. in another cup same size fill with desired amount of ice, add sweet and sour mix to a little over half full, nice dash of (i prefer) Rose's lime juice, dash of triple sec, then desired amount of tequila. shake for 20 seconds or so then pour into the salted glass.

Patron is another excellent tequila. My poker group and I are sippers. We keep a top shelf tequila in our freezers and sip it ice cold with a piece of lime to nibble on between sips.
I currently have Cabo Wabo in the freezer. It's ok but the Patron and Don Julio are cleaner.

I like some good tequila, but I have found that the cheaper (to an extent) the tequila, the better the margarita, and I always use gold tequila. I my mix consists of Sauza Gold, frozen limeade, fresh limes, and Gran Marnier. Mix and Sample to taste.

Margarita
Thought of this thread when I was in Costco recently. I use Kirkland Silver Tequila ($18.99) and the Kirkland premium margarita cocktail mix classic lime. The margarita mix is seasonal and back on the shelves. Tis the season

Thanks for the recipe. I'll definitely give it a whirl! If nothing else, I'll be a hit at the campgrounds...

I bought a Margarator to help distribute them. We tried them the other night and they were pretty good

I have a friend who used to bar tend at a mexican restaurant, I think in Arizona. He gave me this recipe and everyone who I've ever shared it with swears it's the best one they ever had. I usually make it up by the pitcher, keep it in the fridge and then pour over ice when drinking. It's easy to scale up and down.
5 oz Orange Juice
1 oz Triple sec
1-1.5 oz of sour mix (whiskey sour, not sweet & sour)
1 oz lime juice (fresh squeezed is best)
1.5-2 oz tequila (use 100% agave for best results!!!)
I know that much OJ sounds really weird, but it's amazing, and easy to make and keep cold.
Scaled up to a 2 qt container (approx 60 oz)
30 oz Orange Juice
6 oz triple sec
6 oz sour mix
6 oz lime juice
12 oz tequila
Happy drinking!!!!
