Please don't fly drones near forest fires

We are just posting this as a friendly reminder to our members who currently use (or are maybe thinking of purchasing) a drone. The aircraft being used to fight the wildfires in California have actually been delayed due to hobbyists flying these small drones in the vicinity....since it presents a danger to the aircraft crew.

http://abcnews.go.com/US/drones-dela...ry?id=32534795

The US Forest Service has a good warning about this:

This is just being posted as a reminder to use common sense, and not a bashing of the hobby.

Saw the story in the news this AM, I'd shoot it down.

Call off the planes, bang, bring the planes back in.

Yes but unless it's pretty low and close to you (shotgun with birdshot pellets) it's pretty hard to shoot down.

I can not believe the stupidity of some people. How would they feel if their home was lost due to someone flying a drone? Having lost a home to a wildfire in Bastrop Texas in 2011 I can tell it wasn't funny. Drones were not a factor back then but if they were I would hunt down the people and sue them for every thing owned and see if they liked losing everything.

One shouldn't be too surprised to find out that one or more of those Drones were actually being flown by some of the News Agencies located in SoCal. The FIGHT to get "Relevant Footage" is Big Business. And the smaller News Outlets can't always afford their own NewsCopters.
I'd go further, requiring the NewsCopters to Stand Down - or at least Stand Back...
One can do wonders with a Stabilized Long Telephoto Lens, but several of the Video Clips posted by Major News Stations show just how close they were to the Scene - close enough to Complicate the Firefighting and Rescue Efforts...

If the news organizations are that stupid, just hire a sharpshooter and shoot the drones down. No asking them to pull back or anything, shoot first ask questions later.

Flying video equipped multirotor aircraft for commercial purposes is prohibited without a license ( only a handful issued to date) .Lots of wonderful things can be accomplished with these aircraft if used properly. Unfortunately like everything else they are available to idiots.

I would think they did it to get attention. The forestry service/ police/ Fire dept were on the news during fire and warned " WE will get you" I think that ruined the morons plans.

While in Yellowstone this summer we saw "No Drones Allowed" signs posted all over the park. Seems a drone crashed into the Grand Prismatic Spring. The NPS said "No more!"
