Remember tent camping?

We went up to U.P. of Michigan on the shore of Lake Superior recently in a tent and lived to tell about it. LOL

Our first night a blistering storm came in. I swear it was a monsoon! Gushing sideways rain. The tent was flapping pretty good but managed to stay together and dry. The next day the rain went away, but the winds stayed so we moved off shore. Had a good time and I loved the feeling of being close to the earth again. Next tent trip to SC end of August for 10 days! Our four nighter in U.P. was good practice because I forgot how to camp outdoors like that. It took a day before I stopped running around like a chicken with their head cut off. And no....still not gonna tow the 34' TT! No how! We're seasonal and I don't see taking home with us.

I thought they put wheels on campers? my mistake.
We did the same thing last year down the east coast. Tented in Washington DC a couple of days then Virginia Beach for 2 days then a hotel at Myrtle Beach then a Bed and Breakfast in Savannah Georgia. It was a good time. Our tent we bought at Sams Club and it was up in just a few minutes.

Yup, I remember it and I never want to crawl around on the ground again I want to snuggle with my honey in my nice queen bed with the memory foam and listen to the rain pounding on the roof, staying cozy and dry. No midnight trips to the outhouse, etc, etc.

LOL! I hear ya on the midnight trips! Have a solution in mind for next time! It would be nice to take our camper, just too big and too permanent at our seasonal site.

I remember tent camping too - was before my 7 year old was born
used to tent camp in the Florida Keys while my brother and his family was in a camper. Good Times
He no longer has a camper though

In March of 2011 I bought a 2306 to show my daughter what it is to camp and she loves it.
I dont think I could tent camp with my 7 year old cause I couldnt leave her in the tent alone if I had to go to the outhouse so the camper makes it convenient

Yes I do remember tent camping. I think one of our last trips with the tent was in RMNP. On that trip we had mule deer munching grass next to our campsite two consecutive days. We also had a coyote walk right through our site on that trip and I remember thinking, “I sure hope a bear isn’t our next visitor.” That was the year we bought a fifth wheel.

Tent camped from Sep 1960 until 1972. Started with WWII shelter halves sewn together as our tent. Got a factory built slide in pop up camper for our 72 El Camino and haven't slept on the ground since. Would probably give up camping if I had to go back. It was fun then, but would definitely not be now.

Yes, I remember it as well. As a kid that is how my family was able to take vacations every year. Only affordable way to go. After I got married and had children, we had to tent camp as well. Once again, only affordable way for us to go on vacations. We bought a TT a few years ago and then traded to a 5th wheel. I have no desire to go back to tent camping.

We tent camped for 10 years before getting our popup. I also backpacked with the boyscouts. Enjoyed it all but have gotten to the age where creature comforts are nice. I still have the tents and gear. Yeah more than one tent, different ones for different kinds of outings. Not to far removed with a popup, but we go camping much more often with now that we have the PUP.

sometimes I miss a pop up. don't miss the tent so much. we had a bill moss(?) tent growing up. looked like a big horse saddle when set up. easy to find in the sea of sameness. I think it slept 8, so with a family of 5, we had bunches of room. cant seem to find a pic of it to post, but it was a cool looking tent.

Born in July, tent camping by September, guess my mother was a camping addict or a glutton for punishment. Finally gave up the tent after going through a hurricane in nylon tents on the outer banks of NC at Frisco campground.

I still tent camp, although the tent I use the most is a one man only tent. I have it and a backpack in my camper, should the urge ever take over. I love sleeping in a tent during a rain storm.

I hope you're headed to the mountains. Your four nighter in the U.P. didn't prepare you for the heat and humidity of SC coast in August. Overnight lows in middle 70s with 80% humidity is the norm.

Uh Oh! Wow! That is muggy sounding! Maybe we should go farther North. Any suggestions?

I still tent camp at least one week a year, when I am on my annual motorcycle trip. No TVs, no generator, no tanks to dump, no tanks to fill. No wife to keep happy (these are typical solo rides). A lot to be said for this. I enjoy the MH but also love the tent.

Stick to the mountains if you are coming south in August. If I lived in Michigan, I'd opt for a W.Va. state park to tent camp. If you decide to go further east, then Virginia is a sure bet.

Thanks, I'll have to search that suggestion for openings. I did warn DH that camping on the shore of SC at the end of August will be hot, humid, mosquito ridden and likely rain some every day. The ocean will be like bath water, that's a plus. He still wants to go, given due warning. You only live once, so I'm sure we'll make the best of it as we always do!

Had to start tent camping again with my boys, in Boy Scouts. My DW told me that was my job to do, not hers. I found out that the Boy Scouts frown on bring a fifth wheel to a jamboree. Go figure!!!!!
