Trailer Balls

Years ago Colorado had a similar law. Do not know if it is still enforced.

Having lived in Canada for the first 26 years of my life and a few times afterwards I will say that if the license plate light is out the OPP will pull you over but probably not on the 401

In Texas I have two things happen withe the ball mount hitch on
A small Chevy SUV hit me in the rear. It damaged is truck pretty good

The other time we were at Texas motor speedway. In the parking lot I back in so I could pull out
There were a lot of people crossing behind my truck
You would hear the thump , then you would hear ... God that hurts, son of a bit**..
Laughed my ***** off

In New York it is unlawful to have the hitch on when not in use, also unlawful to have license plate frames that cover any part of the plate, or any of the colored covers that go over the plate.
Remember, just because lots of people do something and they do not get a ticket does not mean it is legal. When in doubt ask the next policeman you see and they will be happy to explain what the real laws are in that jurisdiction. As we travel it is tough to know what rules apply in the next state that we enter.

In my opinion this is urban legend.
I've been living and camping in Ontario all my life and never heard of such a thing !
I always take mine off anyway , seems to always be in the way + hitting your legs on that thing really hurts.
Enjoy our great province !

I've known police to not always be aware of the letter of the law. More aware than the common citizen sure, but they're not infallible. That's why I prefer to look them up myself. When I did (post #6) I was able to confirm it's not illegal in Ontario.

If I leave mine in my backup sensors will beep whenever I put my truck in reverse so it comes out when not in use.
