My only question is why did you look at Class C's? You said you saw a Class A that you were interested in but it appears you never looked at it or any class A's?

So here's my salesman story. I searched the internet and found a trailer which met our specs. I found the closest two dealerships who sold the unit we wanted. I picked one where we had looked at trailers years before and knew where it was. I drew a salesman I recognized from looking at another dealership 30 miles away a year or so before and we talked about his work at the other dealership. When we were asking questions and negotiating, he asked what I would be trading in. I told him. He asked "what do you want for it?" Huh? I told him. He wrote it on the back of his business card and gave it to me. However, I couldn't get my ducks in a row so I sent him an email and said "you can sell MY trailer since I can't buy it right now."
A couple of months later, I got my ducks in a row... looked on their website and found another of the same unit - just a year model newer. I went to the dealership and asked for my salesman. He had moved on and a new guy whose experience was in RV parts was assigned to me (yeah, right... he bird-dogged me in the lot). I told him what I wanted to see, looked it over and took it for a test pull. DW and I camped in it one night on their lot and found things that needed service. When we started negotiating in earnest, he said, "I see we offered you XXX for your trade in." I said "No, you offered $500 more than that." He said "my records show XXX." I showed him the other salesman's business card with the offer on the back." He had no obligation to honor that trade-in amount - but he did. While he was out of the room checking on other elements of the deal, I calculated an offer price based on the MSRP (something I had learned here). In the end, I paid within $225 of what I had calculated from an MSRP of $64K+. When he saw my calculation, he said, "Wow, you do know what you're doing!" Could I have bought it cheaper elsewhere? Probably... but I was happy with my treatment from these two salesmen and the owner.

Always saved the original stuff if I replaced it. Most so-called sales people fake the OK from the "blue book (sky)" specialist and add 5% anyway. Then of course that highly discounted tag equals less trade-in and higher destination and prep charges. Personal sales are tricky, a cheep trac-phone is worth the price. Tried it once and met a weasel, everything worked until they took it camping, calls galore. Makes no never mind if you buy from the same people, they know how to work you over - they are professionals and work on commission.

I couldn't have been happier with our RV salesman, the dealership we bought it from, or the price that we paid.

Well,
Most msrp mark ups put the trade in as icing on the cake. Their job is to make your wallet as light as possible and as a consumer you should be doing your homework.
Some are honest and some are scum. I'd like to see the industry strep up. Good luck finding the same saleman or service manager 3 or 6 months later.

"Experience in an RV will usually trump a mental analysis of the pros and cons."
It sounds like you're saying if you don't know what you want you should let a salesman tell you what you need.
===============
I have no clue how you managed to come up with that interpretation.
Unless...and this is a very long shot, that all the members of this forum are salesmen.
Wow, I need a shot of Maker's Mark...that would explain a lot.
