Campground discounts/vs/ memberships

Well now we got it the 356qbq 42 ft of trailer.LOVE IT spent weekend at beach 96 degrees outside, NOW the research to begin on memberships / discount clubs .GOOD SAM.? Or thousand trails.there are plenty to choose from. We are for the next bit just weekenders but if we can sell our house early before we retire then full timers.ANY INPUT ???who to stay away from or I always like positive input.

My wife and I are Thousand Trails members and use it fairly extensively. We're lucky in that our membership was handed down thru the family and it's a national membership vs. one of the zones.

I've also reviewed 2 of the parks that we've stayed at.

Basically- you have to decide if the parks are places that you would like to stay and are in locations that are convenient to you and you'd want to go. $500/year is a lot to shell out if you don't use it, but can make nightly stays cheap if you use it to it's fullest extent. It definitely helps us offset our cost of camping by pre-paying for our camping each year.

I belong to Good Sam, Excapees and FROG. Also get Trailer Life. I wouldn't do without any of them. I would wait and see what type of RVer you are prior to joining TT or other type of camping/RV club. There are many TT and other RV clubs on sale second hand on line.

We have CAA and Good Sam so between them and being retired military we get discounts pretty much everywhere.

We have just recently been looking into the Thousand trails membership. The only thing that is throwing me off to wanting to sign up it the whole zone thing. Living in SE Texas the zone doesnt seem to cover the area's that we would fully camp. The area's covered are to the east of use we would more head to the Nw. If they had more of a custom option other than having to get multiple zones it would be much more appealing. On the other hand i have heard some good reviews of a few of the camp grounds in Texas

Look on Craigslist or eBay for a resale of a national plan. Get the membership number from the seller and call Thousand Trails directly to find out what does and doesn't transfer.

My membership is an old hand-me-down national membership and my dues are the same as 1-zone for more nights.

We looked at TT and Coast-to-Coast and decided they weren't for us. We toured several participating CG and they were mostly run down and had a lot of long-term units that were in bad shape. With the annual expense and limited number of CG we couldn't justify the expense. Instead we belong to Good Sam and Passport America. We have used the PA quite often and save $250-$300 each year.
