Campsite and Vacation Liability

What does this actually cover? Do most of you have this coverage and if so, what is a good limit? Have any of you had to use that coverage before? I have received quote limits for this coverage ranging from $10K of coverage all the way to $500K.

Thank you in advance.

I've never heard of it either. If you have insurance on your RV and your tow vehicle, what more is there to cover?

Thank you all for replying, I finally received an explanation of what this is. I received this from one insurer.

"It is “homeowner’s type” coverage.

When you are parked and someone cut across your campsite, trips & falls on your hoses, wants to sue you and you are found liable. For the $500,000 coverage it is $9.70."

Sounds like that insurance liability is the responsibility of the campground.

If you spend a lot of time camping on private property, then maybe but even then it would be the property owners responsibility to have coverage.

Wondering whom/why this was a recommended need?

If the $9.70 is for a year it's not bad, but if it's per month it's just a way for the insurance to suck money from the customer.

Never heard of this either.

Your lucky if someone hits your camper a police report filed, to get a dime for a repair from the other party let along some one sue you for tripping over something on your site.

Sounds like a scam to me...

Unless it is a rider on an existing RV insurance policy.

Check your policies. When parked, you may have no property damage or injury liability coverage. Vacation liability can handle those sort of things, such as damage from a campfire, trip and fall in or around your RV, etc. The property owner is not liable for your campfire, or stuff causing a trip fall incident...

The key is to consider when your policy treats your RV as a vehicle, and when it is not a vehicle. Not a vehicle is when a vehicle only coverage may not be good enough.

Another item to consider is loss of use should an event keep the property owner from renting the space. Probably not a large risk, but one to consider.

A recent topic on fuel leak costs is another good one to consider.

The $9.70 cost is for a year. I received the quote from Travis at Overland Insurance Services. Once I saw the Campsite / Vacation Liability listed I looked at my current Geico policy and sure enough, it's listed on there as well but for only $10k worth over coverage for no additional charge.

I just don't see the need to cover ourselves against trespassers walking over our sewer hoses, electric cords or even awning tie downs and tripping over them...then suing us.

I suppose it could, and possibly has happened...

If it ever did come down to a lawsuit, I would think the plaintiff would have a hard time justifying why they were walking through someone elses campsite to begin with.

I guess for piece of mind, like getting better tires for our RV's or a big enough tow vehicle to handle the load...it might be worth it.

But again, this sounds more like a money grab by an insurance company that should already be providing enough liability on their already overpriced insurance policy!

You obviously are fortunate enough not to have been involved with the legal system. I have no trouble at all imagining someone 0suing you after tripping over one of your hoses, arguing that you placed them improperly, parked too far from the hook up, etc etc.
While the plaintiff may have a difficult time justifying his suit against you, it's going to cost you a pretty fair amount out of pocket to get out of that suit if you don't hsve insurance coverage for it.

The The basic policy should provide this coverage up to some limit, perhaps the $10,000 the OP stated. $10,000 will just about get you through an initial motion to dismiss which will almost certainly be denied by the court.

I would think hoses and cords would be considered a known hazard. Like getting hit with a golf ball playing golf. You wouldn’t have a case. Now, letting a fire get out...

Think it covers you in the event someone would fall off your steps, etc.

Coverage? If it's like most policies, the insurance company will deny the claim, give all sorts of reasons, keep your money for themselves. Just a profit booster.

So...

Are you telling us that you have indeed been sued by someone tripping over your sewer hose and/or electrical cord while in a campground?
