Up to $2.08 in northern Illinois. Seems to drop in pennies and increase in nickels and dimes.

Gas price has not changed since 1970!

So, I wanted to find out what gas cost in constant dollars.

When I started driving (and buying my own gas) in 1970, gas was about 25 cents a gallon for regular. We were the largest oil exporter in the WORLD; then.

I looked up the US Social Security Average Monthly Earning inflation adjustment for wages earned in 1970 and that number is 6.737
How to Calculate Average Indexed Monthly Earnings (AIME)

So a dollar earned in 1970 is “worth” about $6.74 in today’s dollars.

I just filled up in NJ and paid 1.759 a gallon for regular.

Adjusted for inflation, that is about 26 cents a gallon.

Here in MA we have not dipped below $2 yet. We have been dropping over the past few months and hope that we can get below it.

I hope because it takes us longer to get down to $2, then it will take longer for us to catch up to you guys when prices rise.

So 6 months ago, you were paying 50 cents a gallon. And it's going back up that way already. I wouldn't count on it staying where it's at.

Already seen to be going back up around here. U.S. side went from something like 1.69 to 1.85. CDN side 0.80 to 0.95.

By the time the weather breaks and we all start camping every other weekend it'll be back to $4.00+ a gallon.
