Yes it will "pull" that weight. No question there. Of greater concern with a tow vehicle is payload. The F150 improved some with the new aluminum body but if you are looking for a tow vehicle my suggestion would be 3/4 ton or better yet a 1 ton. I wish I had gone that route. Don't get me wrong. I love my truck but if I had it to do over I would have gone 1 ton. Service at Carmax? I have no clue. I just thought I would pass that on to you to consider. Good luck.

Bought my Expedition from CarMax two years ago. I have an extended warranty, not sure what service agreement is. If you are talking about the warranty, it works like any other dealership. I have only had to use it once and the service was great. Made an appointment, dropped it off and they called me same day to come pick it up. No complaints.

I've bought a car and a truck at Carmax. Their Maxcare is great. You paythe small deductible and they get your vehicle fixed, either in house or a make specific dealership. The 2006 Chrysler Pacifica my wife bought got a brand new full power driver's seat when it developed a catch when leaning back(50 buck deductible ). ABS sensor went on the fritz, they replaced all four senors (50 buck deductible) and just before the warranty expired, they replaced all motor and trans axle mounts when one went out (50 buck deductible). I feel we got more than our moneys worth on that car.

Bought a 2010 F250 with the dreaded 6.4 diesel. I have the Maxcare on it, so I'm not worried about my "ticking timebomb". It does have a $150 deductible, but that is cheap for diesel motor work.

We love CARMAX...second time we used them, sold them our pickup and felt that we got a fair deal with less hassle then trying on our own. We tried to find our new tow car through them but apparently in Calif no one had AWD except in black...found ours in Lost Wages (Vegas lol). Happy Trails

I was doing some research for a new to us car this past weekend and I looked at tons of dealerships and what I found was that Carmax was charging about $3000 to $4000 more for the same vehicles with same miles and same miles than other dear ships were listing. A few months ago and about 3,000 less miles I took one of our cars there to appraised and they offered us $6000 we got 2 trade in quotes from other dealerships this weekend for $10,200. However when I talked to them a year ago about my truck their offer for my truck was above most other dealerships. So I think it is hit or miss.

I've had the same. We sold my wife's old car for a couple thousand dollars more than we could get elsewhere. I took my truck there last year and they were lower by a couple grand

Make sure it is max tow and HD to get that kind of capAcity. As stated above you will lose put on payload. What weight are you looking to tow?

Yea, I agree on this assessment, when I was looking for a used truck, Carmax may sell you a great car/truck. Since California have lemon laws, so you can't go wrong buying it used. Other dealers will also have great cars/trucks but several thousand dollars cheaper than Carmax for the same car/truck. Just my experience with them.

Was in the auto bz for Ford Motor and major US banks for 38 years. Certainly have the ability to have a wholesaler buy me an auction vehicle. The issue is always finding the vehicle you DESIRE vs settling!
5 years ago I drove 90 miles to Carmax to buy a Dodge 2500, Cummins diesel, (red) at a fair, not cheap price. It had just turned 17,000 miles and never towed or hauled. Unblemished vehicle.
I bought it. Put another $5,000 cash in Roll n' Lock cover, beautiful running boards, slider hitch and rails.
Unit now has 64,000 miles and runs like brand new and looks great!
I have it serviced at Dodge dealers wherever we wind up at service intervals.
Soooo, my advice is find what makes you HAPPY and buy it!
I will say that in my opinion, CARMAX vehicles show very well. But, I am just saying again, get what makes you feel good. I have no regrets 5 years later and enjoy this truck!@

Though I have never bought a vehicle from Cmax, I understand they will send off vehicles to wholesale auctions before flipping a problem vehicle to their customers...with that known, would bet you'd be just fine making a purchase from them =)

A lot of dealers are doing that as we don't want the drama/liability of a crap vehicle. Note: many used vehicles are not "perfect" as there is now a trend of a scratch/ dent here and there, or maybe a bad motor mount. Now, vehicle must always be safe and we disclose what we see is wrong and give opportunity to repair those items for a fee added to the loan of course. If dealers fixed everything wrong, you wouldn't get such high trade in values or the sale price would be HIGHHHHH!

Just Purchased from Carmax

This is the second time I have purchased from car max. Their price beat others with out the haggle. Both time I bought pickups. The first time of my purchase I bought the CarMax warranty. Never used it! This time, I purchased a 2014 F-250 P/S King Ranch with only 16K miles on it. It is in pristine condition. It still has a Ford warranty on it.
Both times CarMax beat all other dealers for the same quality of truck. I had looked at 10,000 trucks in AL,GA,FL,SC,NC,VA,KY,TN & Eastern Texas.
It was finally located in Houston, TX. Had to pay $450.00 to get it shipped to Florida for a look see. It was a done deal last Saturday. It is in perfect condition. I viewed Car-Fax for a full history of the truck. One owner and it is only 14 months old from date of MFG.
CarMax's buyers at the auctions are people that know what they are doing.

I'm sure you will be happy with your purchase from CarMax for they provide you with a buy-back & a 30 day warranty.

Good Luck

I have bought 2 trucks from Carmax and have been happy with both purchases. So far I have not had any need to take the truck back for service so i have no experience there but my daughter works for Carmax and they have taken good care of her car. Recommend you get the MaxCare coverage which has paid for itself with my daughter.
