Chinese tire prices increasing
The tire business was put on notice back in the summer that we may have another round of higher tariffs on tires imported from China (we had this happen before a few years ago). The wholesalers have been pushing this point pretty hard to stock up before the price increases. Well today, we're getting the news that the tariffs are going in effect and can be retroactive for 90 days to boot.
I remember reading that they were trying hard to get trailer and specialty tires exempted from the higher tariffs which can be 50%. I haven't heard if they are going to be included or not in these new tariffs. I will let you know when I found out, so you can prepare for higher prices when replacing your trailer/RV tires.
This is just being posted to inform the membership as it affects their pocketbook, and will remain open only if it doesn't go political.

Perhaps this will stimulate tire companies to produce these tires in the USA. I would willingly spend extra money for tires that I can rely on.

Well the trailer and RV manufacturers had been lobbying hard to get ST tires exempted from the tariffs, and were successful with a few caveats:
ST-type Tires Exempt From China Countervailing Duties

Bought my Lacross 329BHT back in Sept and replaced the China bombs in Dec. I spent $500 for E rated 80psi Carlisle tires and then turned around and sold my China bombs with about 500 miles on them for $200. Net investment $300. When I pulled my TT with the China bombs the sidewalls would flex almost in half and created sway above 63mph. Put the Carlisle's on and WOW what a difference! No sway at 75+, no flex in sidewall and overall a much more enjoyable pull.
For the cost of $300 more I would have gladly spent that at the initial purchase and if these RV dealers (who usually push upgrades) would show prospective buyers the difference I believe 75% of people would agree to the upgrade and cost.
I believe these new tariffs will nay make the decision to go to a better/safer tire even more attractive.

You should try it across the board sometime. It's not easy to do.

you do realize that those carlisles are probably still ST tires and as such are still only rated to 65 MPH dont you?

My tire guy and I spend a lot of time making sure I had a tire I could go 75mph and put 80 psi in.

Do you mind sharing what kind of tires they are? Did you switch to LT tires? If so, did you also have to change wheels or anything?
I can't decide what I want to do- I'd like to upgrade somehow but I am space constrained and need all of the capacity that I can get.

My tire guy told me that TOYO just built a new plan in 2014 to produce tires in the USA. Maybe Chinese companies will be moving to the USA also.
Would be good for the USA worker.
