Considering Purchasing Grand Design Imagine RV

Good Day All
My wife and I are considering purchasing a Grand Design Imagine XLS RV. Does anyone have any experience with this RV. Is it of good quality or is it junk. From what I have been able to determine it seems to be ok but don't really know. Any responses would be appreciated. Thank you in advance for your knowledge and information.

Maybe a forum for that manufacture would be a better place to ask that question. I would think you would get much more input.

We were considering an Imagine XLS 22RBE and then I found a great deal on a used Freedom Express 246RKS. From what I've seen and read, the Grand Design trailers are good. Don't expect any brand/model to be totally issue free as you are basically shaking the trailer in a mag 3.5 earthquake every time you tow it, but like I said Grand Design seems to be better than a lot of them.

X2 of joining the Grand Design forum for additional research and questions to actual owners.

We also considered the Grand Design XLS but found a good used Flagstaff mini lite. They looked good to us the only issue for me when I looked was the shower was a little too short for me.IMO any will have some issues just try to find the best fit for you.We just got ours in Oct 2018.Good luck finding a unit and take your time doing it.

As a Grand Design Reflection owner I can only say two thumbs up. Hopefully the Imagine will make you as happy with your purchase as our unit did.

We have a 2017 Imagine 2800bh and love it. Have been very satisfied with the quality after two years of use. If your on Facebook check out the Grand Design Imagine Owners page. It gets tons of activity. Enjoy your RV shopping.

We've been very happy with our 2018 Imagine 2600RB. There were a couple of minor recalls, which our dealer promptly fixed.

I’m not familiar with the Imagine XLS line. Is it between the Imagine and Reflection lines?

I would consider a GD Reflection if they didn’t use the slippery material on their furniture (just my personal preference). I wouldn’t buy an Imagine model. Looking at them at RV shows I just wasn’t very impressed. There are a lot worse makes out there though.

I believe the XLS line is a stick and tin design to reduce the cost.

I’ve heard a lot of GD customers are impressed by GDs customer service. They handled my recall very well and quick when I had a dealer that was not cooperating.

The Imagine XLS line isn't a stick and tin exterior. Its has gel coated fiberglass exterior walls.

It's hard to know how it compares to the standard Imagine and the Reflection lines. I couldn't find any comparisons using a Google search.

I see you went from a Flagstaff TT to an Imagine TT so you'd have a much better idea than me as to their quality. All I know is that the Imagine models that I saw at the Toronto RV show seemed to have poorer fit and finish and cheaper materials than the Rockwood and Flagstaff models. I'm glad you're happy with your Imagine. It should be encouraging to the OP that you're happy with yours and especially with Grand Design's support.

The quality on our Flagstaff was good too. We didn’t buy it new so we didn’t have any of the new construction issues. Those units at RV shows get beat up. Check one out at a dealer.

I'm currently camped next to a GD 5th wheel. I asked them how they liked it.
They weren't exactly joyous in their responses. They said it had way more issues than their previous Sunnybrook. They said it took a lot of time to get all the issues taken care of.
The wife has a CPAP with a humidifier and they have to run their generator 8 hours a day, to recharge their two 6v golf cart batteries.
Luckily they have a Honda 2000i with a sound box over it.

Looks to me like they've made the regular Imagines quite a bit heavier than they were. The current Imagine 2600RB, for example has GVWR and GAWR about 1,000 lbs heavier than my 2018. The XLS line now appears to be their "lightweight" line.

The XLS line is on par with the smaller mini/micro lites from flagstaff and rockwood. We had our choices narrowed down to an Imagine 2400BH and the Rockwood 2509S. We went with the rockwood because it had a nice big dinette, and the murphy bed gave more floor space. If the XLS line had a model with these features, it probably would have been in the running too. Overall, the quality might be a touch better, but there were a lot of little features on our rockwood that the imagines didn't have like the max fan in the bathroom, the adjustable/closable ac vents, wifi extender, etc. The rockwood was a couple thousand less too.

There is a grand design owners forum that I still check occasionally. Smaller group, but very friendly and welcoming even after I bought SOB.
