Dealer Pitching Paint/Cloth Protection Pkg

Checking to see what anyone knows about with a product offered by dealers for new RVs called ECP (Entire Car Protection). It is a Exterior/Paint and Interior/Cloth/Vinyl/Leather Protection Package.

The Exterior protection is a Teflon based polymer that protects the exterior against fading, oxidation and yellowing of fiberglass, eliminating the need for waxing for 5 years with a 5 year guarantee.

The Interior protection is a polymer coating eliminating the risk of oil or water based stains on all fabric/vinyl/leather surfaces for 5 years.

Don't know what the dealer is asking for this service yet.

Any experiences with stuff like this? Thanks

Sounds nice. Perhaps a little to good to be true. I would think the MFG would offer that as an option for big bucks if that existed.

Sorry, just a skeptic...

Yikes!! Another sales gimmick transfers from the automobile dealer to the RV dealer. I think in the old days we called it "packing the sticker".

The dealer will try to sell all kinds of stuff to increase his profit. He will probably try to sell you a extended warranty, if he does make sure you read the fine print

Sounds like a good deal to me but only if the dealership includes pin striping, nitrogen filled tires, gap insurance, mud flaps, and tire protection package at no extra charge.

Personally, I would walk away.
I never take extra warranty on anything I buy...car,truck,rv,appliances,computers,tractors.. .nothing.
Do take the extra year FR warranty for 150$ for an extra year...this one makes sense !
All the others are lining the dealers pockets.
But that's just me...do what makes you feel good...but take time to read the fine prints ,there's usually a deductable on any claims.

Reminds me of a "desert protection package" that a local dealer was trying to use as a condition of a sale at an advertised price on a Chevy A CEO we were looking at once. I asked him if he was trying to tell me that Chevy doesn't have a paint job that can withstand the desert sun. It came with a 2500 price tag. I told him he could keep it and the car. He then was willing to sell for the internet price without the add on. He wasn't happy.... When we traded in the car the paint and upholstery were still pristine. Performance was another question

Our dealer advised an exterior protection pkg is available for around $800, but didn't press hard for a sale. Didn't get it, and glad I didn't because on the first trip I ran along a gas pump barrier post and damage the side of the TT. We did get a 7-yr extended warrant for only $1400.

Safe and happy travels.

Pitch

That's the response I expected. I've always used Maguires #50, Aerospace 303 and Scotchguard with great success.

Thanks everyone!

And HEY 67L48 (post #8) Where did you get that picture of my dealer?

I got the package, I really only wanted the protective because of the stories of the end cap fading and the undercarriage sealent. But the dealer said if I wanted those I would also have to get the interior protection. This included a second application after a year. Well, even with the so called spray that was suppose to "resist" fading, my end cap faded badly. When I made my MV inspection appointment, I complained about the fading. I was asked to send pictures and within 2 weeks, FR agreed to have it repainted. Got that done and it's beautiful, they use the auto method (I understand). I'm still waiting for FR to send the new graphics, they are backordered. Once I get that on, I'll be getting another application of the protective spray. After all I already paid for it.

Wife and I were dumb enough to buy the windshield protection service that prevents glare and oil film etc.. And it was only $700 added on to the price of the rv which was 20 years old to start with.. When we were ready to leave with the MH, I asked the tech if they had installed the window treatment.. He says "Damn" grabbed a junior tech and asked him to take care of it.. ripped open a foil envelope and wiped the window down and that was it for our money.. Good old Camping World.
