Debating on extended for fridge and air conditioner

Got offer from manufacturer of fridge to extend warranty from 2 years to 5 for $270. Same company offered to extended the air conditioner from 2 to 5 years $137. Wondering if any of you can share your experiences. This is our first TT with a air conditioner. What to do???

You're asking for an opinion.
I say, save your money.
Consumer Reports says appliance insurance is a bad buy.

I have not, would not pay the insurance.
It's totally up to you.

Have you priced out replacement cost of those items? Right now you are looking at $407 to cover both items for 3 years.

Dan is quite right in calling it "insurance." That is how you have to consider it; and we buy insurance to cover us for things we cannot afford to replace.

TOTAL "ditto"

Save your money and buy what you need when you need it.

Other than delamination of a major structural panel, I doubt extended warranties are worth the money.

Thanks for the input. I guess I will save my $407 and put it towards the first thing that DOES inevitably break.

This totally depends on your financial situation and if you can handle the cost if you something breaks. I know they offer these extended warranties for appliances. However, I'm not sure if they are worth it. If it was me, I wouldn't purchase it.

There tend to be two schools of thoughts on this subject :
1) Yes, do it for peace of mind
2) No, save your money and set it aside in case you need it

A lot of people don't seem to get their money worth when buying the extended warranty. Review the pros and cons and decide what if best for you but be sure to find out what exactly it will cover or not.

Sometimes I will opt for extended warranties but usually not. It's a personal choice based on various factors.

Our brand new air conditioner broke down during it's first use last year, in 120 degree temps in Texas.
Problem was... Even though it was under warrantee... They had to order parts.
Takes two weeks. The cost of hotels, and meals out was more than a new air conditioner would have cost...
One thing I learned... If it is a lemon... It will likely break as soon as it gets really hot and you really need it
