Dometic air conditioner extended warranty

We got a new camper this spring and just received and extended warranty offer from domestic on the air conditioners
What is the consensus of owners worth the money or not?

I am not usually a fan of the extended warranty program

It's a shame one has to purchase "extended warrantee" on products that should last. But that is what our society has come to expect.

Extended warranty

I paid $137 for my extended warranty. Dometic 15000 btu with heat pump failed after 3 years. Covered the $1500 replacement cost plus labor and minus $100 deductible. I didn't even remember buying the extended warranty. Found out I had at RV repair shop. I usually don't buy them, that is why I forgot. I ended up a happy camper.

I'm generally not a fan of Extended Warranties myself. But with the high failure rate, and Zero repairability, of some of the new units I purchased it. $109 for adding three (3) more years, for a total of five (5) years is cheap insurance on a major sub system.

We just replaced on 15K Dometic heat pump a couple of months ago. It failed less than 2 weeks before the end of the manufacturer's two year warranty. They covered it without question, but still makes me wonder. Bad thing is that the units are sealed and can't be recharged if they loose refrigerant. For something being bounced around constantly when you're driving, that just doesn't seem quite right, but it is what it is. Some folks have had valves installed so they can recharge the units but I've heard mixed reviews on that - both good and bad, mostly bad. I'd have to say go for it.

Just one thing to add - if you have an overall RV extended warranty, then you may not need to buy any appliance extended warranties. Just make sure you don't have some exclusions that could come back to bit you. "Listed parts" warranties are notorious for listing everything but the ones you will need. The "everything is covered unless excluded" type is the way to go. Usually maintenance items like oil, air and oil filters, brake pads and drums, windshield wiper blades and so forth are excluded but watch for any trouble spots.

FWIW(for what it's worth) Dometic is/was aware of the problem and supposedly corrected it after June 2016. Most of the problems are prior...I think.

Mine(10-2016) came with Coleman...improvement??
