Extended Stay Question

Sooo I'm about to embark on my first long stay in sunny FL. Looking at staying for a month or more at one site . Checking websites at rates and they state that you pay for your electric. On an average, what will an electric bill be for a month? I know there's alot of variables to consider but on an average.

Electric is included for stays of less than 2 weeks. Longer than that electric is on your dime.

On the upper end, at Excapees RV Park in Livingston, TX, July 2012, temps near 100 F, humity about 95%, 31 foot fiver, 12.5 cents per KWH, 50 AMP service with two ACs, 15,000 btu and 13,500 BTU in the bedroom, $5.66 per day average for four days. I would think that this is on the high end?

Call or email the RV parks you are interested in. They should have some idea. Or find out who supplies the local power and inquire about rates. One thing I am not knowledgeable about is, do you get your bill directly from the power company or do you get it from the RV park? The later would cause me some problems unless the monthly site fee was really cheap.

I don't think the idea of moving on at day 15 is necessarily correct. You need to do the math.

The RV park I stayed at over Memorial Day did the power bill for the long terms.

Rates for electricity charged by the park(s) here in Florida are the same as what Florida Power & Light charges. They can't charge more than that because they would have to be licensed as a utility. That is codified in this state. Figure $75 a month for a non HE unit in the far south.

Site rates vary based in time of year (seasonal), location, amenities and other perks. Short stays in season are the highest rate by far and yes, the price always includes FHU. There is a small break for weekly stays. When you get into months the rates drop. The biggest drop is when you get to 6 months as you no longer have to pay the Florida Resort Tax.
Parks that are 55+ also bring a premium price.

So if you want northern FL you can find much cheaper rates than along either coast or Southern FL. If you want endless summer way down by me you're going to be chasing all the moths out of your wallet for sure.

If you're on a 50-amp site, does TT charge $3 or $5/day? Or does Orlando not do that?

ependydad,

Some parks do charge for "premium" spots. They define that term in many ways. On the water. Paved patio. 50amp etc. You can go to RV Camp Sites in the U.S. | American RV Camping Grounds | RVontheGO which is the Encore/Thousand Trails website and pick whichever park you want to see the details on.

Actually, as a Thousand Trails member, the charging if things is different than the "public" is charged. In TT parks- TT members don't charge for "premium" sites, but some do charge for 50-amp service. Since TT Orlando has both 30 and 50 amp sites, I wasn't sure if they charged for their 50-amp sites. More just curious as it'll be a little while until we make it back down there.

Not for sure on Orlando TT, but I don't think so, they've never ask and most of the sites we stay on have both, we always stay in the E, F or G section and all of G is 50a. We've never been charged.

Cool. I know each park is different - if they do or don't charge. For parks that charge, you get charged if the site simply has 50 amps available (not that you use it).
