Extended Warranty

I just bought a new Wildwood XLite 26bh and think it is great. I am new to RVs and the dealer is proposing I buy this 7-year extended warranty. I don't know if it is worth it. Are there lots of mechanical or structural failures on these units when they are new? It is 1000.00 for this warranty. Is it worth it? Thoughts?

I think you should check the proposed warranty out very carefully before buying. Most after-market warranties are considerably more expensive than $1K, especially for 7 years. FYI Forest River has a second year extension to original factory warranty for available for $150.00 but you have a short time limit in which to buy it.

A couple of thoughts--
Many people will not have the same trailer for 7 years. Will you???
The appliances come with 1 or 2 year warranties already.
Most appliance bugs will show up in that time if at all.
Are you a do-it-yourself-er or do you pay to have every little household
problem fixed?
If you think a crescent wrench is the moon with a bad back you need a warranty. If you know what a spanner wrench does you
probably don't.
And I agree that $1000 sounds light for 7 years. WHAT does it
cover and what is the deductible and where do you have to
take it for repairs AND remember if the warranty company goes
belly up you loose.

We paid well over $3,000 CAD for a 5-yr extended warranty. Had to use it once so far for the power box under the fridge. We are in out 1st year of the extended warranty and bought it mainly in case the slide goes. This is our first unit with a slide and we just wanted to be covered in case anything goes wrong.

I will have to post the warranty details later. Am at work and don't have it in front of me. I am pretty handy (I just soldered new capacitors on to my TV to fix it for example). There is no slide on this unit. I am young and don't have a bad back . I am new to this and generally don't buy extended warranties for anything I own. This is, however, an entirely new venture for us and I don't sleep in my TV. I will post more details later. This may boil down to keeping my wife happy. If she feels secure, then I feel secure.

Check on Forest River's 2nd year bumper to bumper warranty, I think for $150. But it has be done during signing or very shortly after. My dealer did not mention that, but did mention the 7 year contract.

Really, the appliances on these campers are not too complicated, and you can find the repair answers on this forum on most things, including the diagrams and good advice from people that have already been there and done that themselves. Since your unit has no slides, I personally would feel comfortable enough not opting for the thousand dollar warranty. Most of the necessary repairs you're gonna find will be simple stuff like fuses or loose wires, corroded connections, pipe fittings that need tightened up, stuff like that. And besides, like Ky Dan said, the appliances have their own warranties that go on for 1, 2 or 3 years, anyway. Think about it, there's probably deductibles, and mileage to get it repaired at the dealers, and every repair that I took mine in for, I could have fixed myself, quite easily. (I kicked myself afterward),lol!! Randy

I concur about not getting the $1000.00 7-year extended warranty, but go for the FR 1-year extended warrenty for sure.

I was told about that when our Wolf Pack 285wp was delivered to use and I sent the $150.00 to FR (we had 10 days to do it) and it did come in handy with one month left in the second year when the fuel transfer pump died and it paid for itself with that fix.

If anything dies and/or breaks, it will be within two years of purchase (at least it seems that way).

Make sure you get the application form from your FR dealer - then send it to FR within 10 days. If your dealer claims to know nothing of this warranty, I think I recall that somewhere on this forum you can find a copy of the form.

you need to have the dealer give you the form for the FR 2nd year warranty. my dealer gave me mine.

We got the 7 year extended warranty simply to cover big ticket items like the slides or awning or AC unit. I would not even consider using it for an appliance or even the converter box as they are far to easy and cheap to procure off EBay. But lose a slide well there ya go. And if I don't use it I get 80% of my $1900 back at the end of the 7 years, so abt $54 a year for peace of mind is pretty cheap. I also checked and ours covers just about everything in the trailer, no hidden oh by the way's.

John, does the 7 year warranty covers delamination of any kind and if yes is it prorated based on years of ownership?

I just bought the extended warranty from FR for the extra year last week it cost me 250.00 may be due to the size of my rig not sure, but I bought the rig in July so there is some leeway. I spoke to rgyoder@forestriverinc.com.

My dealer knew about the 2nd year deal; but did not have the forms for the $150 FR warranty. (Why would they when they can sell me theirs instead.)

I just sent in the form from the link above, and just got it back this week. Coming from Canada it was about a 3 week turnaround; but they cashed my cheque and signed the form- so I'm good.

I'm not sure if it matters to my fellow Canadians, but I went and opened a US$ chequing account at my bank. It's a pay-per-fee type of account; but this way I also have the cancelled cheque in case there ends up being an issue later on.

My extended warrenty form was not with the paperwork when I picked up the TT from RV Direct. But I knew about the extended warrenty from lurking on this forum for 6 months prior to purchase. A quick call to Forest River and they sent the form and all is good.
