Forest River Extended Warranty (2nd year)

I'm about to accept delivery of a 2011 831FKBSS and in looking thru previous threads I came across reference to a 2nd year warranty direct from FR. I understood that a seperate check had to be mailed direct with 10 days of purchase but am told by my dealer that I will be contacted at the end of my 1 year warranty for purchase of the additional year. I hesistate to trust his word on this now because he failed to mention this offer trying to get me to buy a high dollar extended warranty thru a third party. Has anyone made a recent purchase that can verify one way or the other what is required? I want to take advantage of this if possible but as far as I can tell FR doesn't really want their customer calling them direct. If someone has a number to call please post it.

Many thanks.

That's the first I've heard about FR contacting you after the first year. I'm not saying it's not true, just I haven't heard of it.
I always heard that you had to purchase the 2nd warranty within the first 10 days, but others have posted they received the warranty after that by contacting FR. Here's some numbers you can call.

Hi,
My husband and I purchased our trailer at the end of November, our dealer sent us the FR paperwork for the warranty in the mail within a couple of days and it needed to be submitted within 10 days. We sent in $150 and received the same paperwork back with their signature on it. I think your dealership was trying to get you to sign one with them. I would also let FR know that dealer is not promoting the warranty. Good Luck!!
Happy Camping!

We did the same when we purchased our 285wp and we were told about the 1 yr extended warranty by the FR rep at the signing of the papers. 1 yr and 9 mos later, we had to use the extended warranty and it was the best $150 we spent.

You definitely need to send it in during the first 10 days. Actually, obviously, The dealer is supposed to offer it to you during the delivery and explain that this option is available. If you pass the ten days, you might be out of luck.

They might also bury the additional warranty papers with the stack of other papers and not tell you at all. You might want to check all the papers they give you if it is there.

Good luck with your unit !

Thanks for all the replies. I spoke with the Warranty Manager at Fr and he sent me the form to submit. He was very helpful in explaining the details and said that it should be mailed within the 10 days but as long as it was no longer than a month they would have no problems accepting my check for the extended warranty. I know my dealer and he is definitely trying to hide this coverage. If it wasn't for the great warranty service I got on my new 2010 unit I probably wouldn't have gone back but at least I know up front not to trust what he says.

In our case, we did it by fax and phone to FR and they do take VISA or MC.

I think it's worth the $150 for sure.

We had to use the FR second year warranty several times and it was well worth the money.

Well I was stupid enough to trust my dealer. I just found out about the 2nd year maintenance program by reading this forum. No one at the dealer ever mentioned it. I did look in the materials that I received with the new trailer but there was nothing in there concerning the plan either. I have contacted FR in hopes that they will still extend me the chance to get the 2nd year but I doubt it since I purchased my trailer in May of 2010. It is my fault for trusting a sales person and a dealer that I had not dealt with before. But I guess that you live and learn even at my age. I have also contacted the dealer to see why I was not told about this program but they will probable not answer my email or calls now. This is the first new trailer we have ever owned and we are finding out things about it that we never knew before. I really want to thank everyone here at the forum. You guys are great. I will be reading the information here a lot more for now on. Thanks,

I just bought a Wildcat 34FLR Fifth Wheel and my dealer (a large one in South Louisiana) failed to inform me about the 2nd year option. Of course, I already knew about it when I picked up the coach, purely as a result of reading this forum. Forest River cashed my check yesterday, so I know my payment and form made it to them. The internet is a wonderful resource!

Does the 2nd year warranty apply to all Forrest River products? We are taking delivery of a cruise lite 26 rks next week and the dealer has failed to mention anything about it but they sure do try to sell the expensive extended warranties.

my dealer did not mention it and also removed the paper work from the packet. I called FR about 4 months after the fact, explained what happened and they emailed me the form. I sent them a check and now have the second year. I would call and explain what happened , its up to the warranty manager to make the decision.

First post...We ordered a Salem 26Tbud, which we pick up in April. The finance guy just tried to sell us an exteneded warranty. When I asked about the FR extended, he told me I had to contact FR for that. I just called FR, and they hung up on me. I really hope this isn't an omen of things to come!

Anyone have a direct contact at FR for the extended warranty application? Thanks!

Ok, I found Jonathan at FR on another post and called him and feel much better. He told me that the paper work for the extended warranty is included with the unit right from FR and that while the dealer doesn't have to advertise the extended warranty, they do have to offer it to you..... He also mentioned that the 10 days thing, is the rule and that exceptions are rare.

So the trailer will come with the paperwork for the 2nd year warranty when you pick it up from the dealer who says he doesn't have it?

I'm not sure I understand.

Yes. You got it. The dealer claimed that they didn't know about the option to buy the two year extended warranty through FR and didn't have the paperwork. When I called the dealer back, they said that they would include the warranty application with the paper work package.

electronic copy?

Does anyone have an electronic copy of this form or is there any way someone could scan & post it or a link to it? It seems there are many customers who didn't get the form or are worried that they will not get it (like me).
If I had a copy now, I'd feel much better knowing that I won't have to scramble to find it after taking delivery.
