Ya know its funny. I traded in my 15 or so year old camper for our new Salem. For the pat 5 years I never ever worried about something not working on our previous TT. There wasn't the the 'electric' this that and the other thing so I felt really good about everything working each spring. I had to really put my fears or stress into perspective and pass on the $1600 ext warrant and felt good about the $150 extra year. There are a few things on my list that our dealer will handle after this season and by next season all kinks should be worked out. I guess I will have to wait 6 years to really figure if it was the right choice and in the end it is just how you feel. Hopefully after year 2 I will feel confident that things will work as they should.

I don't understand why they don't just make it a standard two year warranty. It seems like that would be a good marketing tool and might bring in more than the extra $150 per person they get now. Of course, not everyone signs up for the extra year...

So the extended warranty is company specific and not model specific? If I have a rockwood pop up, then it is covered as I can pay $150 for a rockwood extended warranty? Do I understand this right?

I read about the FR extended warranty on here. Was never mentioned by dealer. Have had camper back for 2nd time for warranty work. Did nothing the 1st time. Complained again and this time they found the problem but nothing was cover by the warranty so had to pay for it. So I asked for papers for extended warranty and got them, but after the new warranty did not pay for anything wondering why I should buy a 2nd year. Have camped 4 times and 2 times to dealer. 2014 Silverback 31RK. Had to install a check valve in near water heater, had hot water in all cold faucets and toilet. The a/c inside cover broke 1st time I cleaned filter. Had to install a 2nd valve in black water because it was leaking by the valve in the line.

The cost for the 2nd year warranty varies with the model of the RV. Motor homes cost more and possibly pop-ups will be less. Get the cost from Rhonda or take a look at the warranty form, I believe it has the cost for the various RV's on it. The most common cost seems to be $150 but yours could be less.

I'm no expert, but except for the AC cover those sound like issues the warranty should have covered to me. The hot water issue sounds fishy to me also.

I’m glad I found this thread. Like many others, my dealer never mentioned this extended warranty through FR. Our finance guy seemed honestly surprised when we passed on the extra warranty they offered. He said it’s 50/50 for first time owners but typically experienced owners bought it at a 90% clip.

They would roll it into the financing and it was “only” $12/month. I did the math and that would make the total cost of the warranty nearly double by the time we paid the note off. The warranty would be expired long before then as well. That wasn’t even including the deductible if we had to make a claim.

My dealer didn't mention it to me either then I brought it up and they paid for it for me. Thank you FR forum for keeping me informed.

We were never told about a second year warranty and did buy a seven year extension for $1400.00, which we have not yet used. We have owned the rig since April 2013 and did have warranty work done at this dealer plus work done by another dealer in another state. Both dealers service departments left me severely disappointed in dealers.

Since we full time and attended the rally in Goshen this year we will use the good contacts we made at FR and if something serious needs attention we will drive to Goshen and have the qualified people at the factory handle it.

As I have stated in other posts I will not let the dealer where we purchased fix a bicycle tire nor darken their door again for anything.

Just an FYI... Although Coachmen is under the Forest River umbrella, they do not offer the second year warranty... Which I think is kinda bush league.

Same for Prime Time. I let them know what I thought once I found out that they didn't offer it, but other Forest River products did.

What do you do after the two year warranty expires

My husband and I are looking at a 2015 Forest River Cherokee Grey Wolf 26dbh. The dealer said the extended warranty would be about $1600 for 7 years. If we were to forgo this warranty and get the extended warranty through Forest River, do they offer an extended warranty at the end of the two years? Are there other options for extended warranties at the end of the two years? This is all new to me.

Get the 2 year for 150.00, Then if you still need the 7 year you lose 2 years because of the FR warranty. So you really get 5 years for the price of 7 years. Also see what the diff. will be if you bought it now or in 2 years sometimes they charge more if you do not get it when it is brand new. Check the figures. I'm out of my 2 year but bought it when I got the unit. One repair I had after the FR 2 year and it has been half paid for already.

Agree. Most of the issues will crop up the first year anyway. Check your appliance documentation that came with your trailer. You might just find that they have their own 2 year warranty as I discovered with mine. After that it's a gamble, to break even, you'll need $1600 worth of repairs to happen. I think odds are in the "insurance company's" favor. Just my two cents FWIW...

I'm hoping to pick up our new unit tomorrow, I'm glad I found this thread. I'll be adding the 2nd year for sure. The rest, I'll handle myself.

I am picking up my new Forester MH on Thursday. Of course after reading the forum I asked about 2nd year warranty for $150. I was told by the first person that she didn't know anything about that. I would like to initiate a call to FR to get a form coming my direction. Is it okay to call the numbers above even though they do not cover the Forester line?
Looking at the FR web site there isn't a number to be found to start out with!

Many thanks.
