We also found diesel prices significantly lower at normal gas stations vs
truck stops on a recent Ky to FL trip.

Some discussion over at RV net on that and someone said there are
higher road taxes on Truck stop diesel.
This drives the diesel price difference between gas station diesel and truck
stop diesel.
Not all states have this but many do.
Plus the truck stops were charging even more if you used credit cards.
The gas stations charge the same price for cash or credit and with my
credit card I get 1.5% cash back. At current diesel prices that works
out to about 6 per gallon less on top of the the already lower gas
station diesel price. This is a significant price difference!

Since I've been driving a gasser for 8 years and filling up at gas stations
with my trailer in tow all along, it was a no brainer to do the same
with my diesel.

While traveling around the country we use our Flying J/Pilot loyalty card. But before we go, we check local station we our "Gasbuddy" iPhone app. Sometime it is less costly at local stations.

The DOT card they are referring is your federal Department of Transportation motor carrier registration.

If you have a federal DOT number, you do not have to pay the state sales tax on fuel as you are not an "end user".

Of course at that point you then are a commercial carrier and need to fulfill all those obligations.

A rainy day camping is better than a sunny day at work.

How is it one careless match can start a forest fire, but it takes a whole box to start a campfire?
