I suspect that the real issue is the amount of refined product that is exported overseas.

Regular gas came down .01 this week in my neck of the woods to $2.58. Diesel unchanged at $2.69 a gallon.

No, I'm talking about the study that WolfPaq referred to in post 53.

Here's the NY Times article about it. (have to either be a subscriber or open it in incognito mode to see it) which you obviously knew where he got it from since you mentioned it in the very next post.

Here's the actual study which you have to pay to download.

From the abstract, the paper doesn't talk about gas prices vs miles driven. It is talking about the economy as a whole from gas prices going up.

So...you have read the actual study?

Here it is for free:

This paper studies the effect of energy price changes on consumer spending.
Doesn't say anything about miles driven.

That was my whole point. You are both talking about different things.

I see my little post worked as planned. It started a discussion and people doing actual research to base their conclusion on.

Mean while...I noticed here in NE Mid-grade and Premium have surpassed $3.00 Premium is averaging around $3.30/gal. Diesel is running from $2.89 to $3.05...seems to be higher close to the roads that are taking up the slack for I-29 and other roads that are out of service with the flooding. E85 is hanging back in the mid and upper $2.00 range.

I’m not stopping traveling because diesel goes up, my age keeps going up and as long as I’m able I’m going to keep driving. I just keep the tank full besides this is what I saved for was enjoying life. To save on fuel you can always spend the night at Walmart, I don’t worry about where my next dollar is coming from. If diesel is three bucks a gallon or four bucks a gallon I’m not cutting back on traveling.

X2; If fuel prices were going to stop me, I would have sold everything back in 2008. My wife and I went out west that year and my fuel cost for a 2,386 mile round trip was $1,122.9 at $4.64/gallon average diesel fuel price.

I bought my truck and trailer to enjoy and to experience the US of A. Fuel prices are not going to slow me down as we travel in our retirement years.

I went to Yellowstone in 08 and had a great time, diesel was four bucks a gallon or more, I just kept the tank full. I was filling up at one station and the diesel went up twice while I was filling my 100gal auxiliary tank. The sign was up twenty cents while I was there. We had a great time, it snowed on my birthday, June the tenth. You couldn’t ask for anything better

Gas prices

It can be a pinch for some of us. $ 4/ gallon would mean never go to an RV resort. Stick to cheaper gravel sites at campgrounds with reasonable prices, for me. I don't need all of the fancy amenities any way. Cable is pretty essential and most wi-fi is not good, so I bring my own (some times not much better, depending on location). One of these days it might be nice to try one of the fancy places for a week or two, since sooner or later we run out of days. The trick is to plan to run out of money shortly after one runs out of days. I guess no matter how carefully we plan there is always some gamble involved. Have fun!

Cheap diesel or expensive diesel my job is keeping the tank full. This is the time of my life that I’m spending money not saving money. Granddaughter wanted to go to Fort Wilderness, I never thought I would pay $198 a night for a campground spot.

That's why we stay as far away from Disney anything these days.

Their prices are worse than a 20 year financing option from Camping World!
