My lifetime Good Sam membership gets me a 6 cent discount on gas at Pilot Flying J. That and the discount at Camping World make it worthwhile. The campground discount helps, but we tend to stay at more state or federal parks.

The road service is an optional addition. We have AAA instead. We use those discounts also.

After a couple of years of paying the yearly fee, I became a lifetime member. All of the discounts over the years have more than paid for the membership.

I recently joined the Good Sam Club primarily for the CG discounts as well as the Camper's World deals. They currently have a deal on new member life memberships for military and law enforcement for $99. That seemed like an exceptional deal to me.

We've been Good Sam's members for several years. I save more than enough on camping discounts to cover the cost. I'm embarrassed to admit that I didn't know about the Pilot/Flying J discount. They are Tennessee-based and we have tons of 'em in this area.

We just booked three days at Lake Tholocco on base at Ft. Rucker in Alabama. Normally it cost $18/night. Good Sam discount dropped it to $12/night so we nearly paid for the yearly membership fee $25 right there.

I have both of them. I have saved quite a bit with both of them. As for the Flyin J's here in Michigan, I use the one in Saginaw and Lansing the most.

If you plan on coming up to Frankenmuth, make sure your camper is not to big. My last 5er was a 29 foot Cardinal and the neighbors were so close in one side that I thought if it got windy their awning was going to hit my camper. On the door side I couldnt even put out my awning all of the way cause the other neighbors were too close as well. Ands there are very few trees so not much shade without my awning. I do not think my new camper would have fit on the siter that I had. They pack them in like sardines up at that park! The pool is great!! Then park is kept up really nice just small sites. There used to be 6 of them here in Michigan now there is only 4. We have stayed at all 6 of them. We recently stayed at the old one in Traverse City, the new name is Timber Ridge(For about 8-9 years). The one that I like the least is Frankenmuth!!

Last summer we stayed at a goodsam CG on the outskirts of Charleston SC.
They offered me a GoodSam membership for $20!! It was paid for on the spot
due to the discount I received at that one CG. No brainer at the time.

Others mention the free shipping at CampingWorld. It was briefly free for
anything but I think CW now has a minimum purchase to get free shipping?

Also others mention the fuel discount at Flying J. Some have said 6˘ gal on
diesel. I just looked at the GS website and it said 5˘. But we have a capital
one cash rewards card that gives 1.5% cash back. IF diesel is $3.85 my
capital one cash back is 5.77˘ per gal.
If I'm buying gasoline the Flying J discount is 3˘ BUT my credit card cash
back remains at 1.5% which works out to 5.25˘ if gas is $3.50

All those numbers mean MY savings from the GS membership is almost
all in camp ground discounts. Since we also have AAA we can use
that discount where available.
I'll probably renew GS this summmer but I gotta tell you they HOUND you
to death with "special offers". They REALLY push that travel insurance.
Again I have AAA so all that GS advertising goes in the trash

We are Good Sam Members, discounts have paid for the yearly dues. I just renewed at a Camping World and got a coupon for a free night camping at a park. I use it also at our local campground just up the road to get my propane. We are satisfied with our membership plus we have AAA.

We'd use the one in Saginaw, but I think that's the only one heading north.

If you go up 127 like you are going to My Pleasant, there is one just north of I69

Sorry it is on 66 just north of I69. There is another one at the I69/I96 interchange on Grand River

In the past 7 months of full-time camping, we've saved $195 in camping fees & Camping World discounts using Good Sam, $34 using Escapees, & a whopping $728 using Passport America!

When I joined GS, I wrote them a letter stating I wanted to "OPT out" of all direct marketing as I had heard they trash your mailbox relentlessly. To date, I have received NO advertising whatsoever from them. I get the magazine and that's it. Their privacy policy says they honor an OPT out request for 3 years then you have to renew it. I highly recommend this tactic!

Right-on Dan. We pretty-much do things the same way you mention and we get buried in Good Sam mailings (getting tired of that). Do like CW and there mag.

The best thing is that you get to stick one of those cool looking Sam's Club stickers on the back of your RV. You ain't hangin' with the right crowd if you don't have one.

DW switched us to Good Sam last year after our Coachnet ran out. She (a management acct.) did extensive due diligence comparisons, including online reviews, and figured Sam's was the best way to go. We have medical coverage with a different carrier tho.

Lol, when I was young, I thought folks with those stickers were all lame old farts and I wouldn't have ever dreamed of owning an RV, even if given one. Now, a couple of months away from 60, I discovered that camping with an RV is serious ship and a LOT of fun. Nothing else is more important now. Things sure do change...... Proud to have a Sam's Club sticker on our TT.

Later - gotta run, just heading out the door to the earlybird RV show near us. Woohoo!!

Here in Texas, the two Flying-J's I looked at were about 10˘ higher than other places, so the meager discount was just a joke.

I have a Life Membership with Good Sam's and have used it a lot, all the way from Pennsylvania to Alaska and through out Canada. The best part of Good Sam's is their website which helps you plan trips and find campgrounds. Their rating system gives you a very good scale with which to judge the campgrounds on. We also took out their road side assistance and needed to use it once when a tire blew out on the RV. It was worth every penny that day.
Yes there are other options out there, you just need to decide what it is that you are looking for from a membership program. I would think that there are more Good Sam affiliated parks than any other.
