Great Deal on Generators...need to choose one

Not sure how well known this is. Wise Sales as a really good deal on Honda EU2000iA and Yamaha EF2000iS generators for $894.90 shipped. Same price for either one.

It seems the Honda tends to get the most press, but the Yamaha is about on par with it. Given that both are priced exactly the same, what would be your choice and why? I'm about to order one and I'm not sure which one to buy.

Do you like red or blue better? I don't think either is a bad choice. We have a Honda EU3000is and I would not trade it for anything but that being said if I would have got a smokin deal on a Yamaha I would have taken it instead at the time of purchasech when it comes to engines and generators.

Hmmmm, I have a Yama EF2400is, but if both are the same I might go with the Honda......I think you can parallel 2 Hondas (with a kit), but not sure about the Yamahas.

No complaints at all with my Yama.

you can parallel both. since both are excellent products, i'd compare specs and go with the one with the better specs.

you can't go wrong with either.
as others said, i have a Honda 2000 and love it but if i could have gotten a better deal on the Yammy, i'd bought it.

Thanks all. I really couldn't see any difference in specs except for the couple of pounds more weight on the Honda. Given that the Honda is substantially more popular and has a much more established track record, I went with it over the Yamaha. Pretty much a coin toss. I think either would be technically equal to the task.

Wise Sales.....Bought my Yamaha 4500 on sale last year at a super low price and received the remote start for free,installed for free,plus free shipping !! I was a little worried about what I would receive after ordering because they were so cheap(even cheaper with sale price + free-b's )(thought I might receive old unit or something)...It was drop shipped just as they said and was manufactured the month before purchase ( I purchased in Aug-2010) (manufacture date on plate-July-2010).....They even called to see if everything came as expected and asked if the remote start was working OK -- They prep it before they shipped it ! So oil, etc. all in and checked ! Great place to purchase....A++++ Customer Service !! PS -- See you went with Red....blue is just as good ! Good choice on either model the blue can run in parallel also !

To much red isn't a good thing.....one has to mix it up a little bit !! Hmm maybe that's why I really like the color purple, you have me wondering now--??? Do they make a generator in purple ??

I went with the Yamaha 3000iseb. Yamaha guarantees it will run 15k a/c which it does do and I can also run microwave and lcd tv at the same time. I've had it about 5 years now and have not had one problem with it.

According to the Honda website and posts I have read, the Honda 3000 will run "most" 13.5k a/c units but very few people have gotten it to run a 15k.

It had been a while since I camped with the generator and I couldn't remember exactly so I just hooked it up to test. I can run the a/c and two LCD TV's or the a/c and microwave. That test was also when the temp was around 90 degrees today.

Holycow, that is one sweet yamaha, thanks for the answer regarding the a/c, tv and microwave running.... I will have to look a little deeper with the Yamaha. I was set on the Honda..... Thank you very much....

Many well made pieces of equipment can operate at loads above their ratings - for short periods of time - and at the potential loss of total longevity.

The manual with my Honda 2000 states that it can be slightly overloaded, at the expense of overall life. Keep in mind that some of that 'overload' capability is actually built-in to handle the inrush current. Which by its nature is not a continuous load. Overloading it on a continuous basis could lead to an untimely failure.

The Yamaha, like the Honda, is a well made piece of equipment. I bought Honda because of the nearby service availability. Had my dealer carried Yamaha instead of Honda, then I'd be writing about my Yamaha.

The overload light will briefly cut on when I start the AC using my Yamaha EF2400is.
