Hot water heater electric conversion kit
Hott Rod Electric Conversion 6 gallon Water Heaters Universal RV ..
This is on sale for $79.99 right now. My trailer only has propane. I wonder how long it would actually take to pay off the $80 in propane? Do you think it is worth it?

How many days/nights do you get on a bottle of propane. I realize cooking, and maybe furnace is in the equation, but assume all hot water. I got 70 days on a bottle, 30 pound, cost $25 to refill, so at that, I could stay over 220 days, or 7 months, before I broke even.

To Windrider, I figured it would take quite a while. My hot water heater isn't too loud if you ask me. You can hear it but it doesn't make me talk louder. I actually cook very little in the camper and don't run the furnace all that much so it is most hot water. Maybe it isn't worth it.

On a side note, I wish that someone would make a gas/electric tankless water heating system for full time RVers like myself. Then the only time that it is running is when I'm cleaning something or taking a shower and I don't have to listen to it kick on and off all night trying to keep six to ten gallons of water hot when I don't need it to be. But the cost may be slightly prohibitive.

It only takes about 20 min to heat the water. Why leave the heater on all the time? Only turn it on when you need hot water.

My old trailer I use one tank a yr with only gas hot water tank.I didnt use a full tank last yr with my elec/gas hot water.Plus when I take a shower now the water stay hotter no cold hitting me . I have two switches one back where the tank is and one on the control panel .So I know to turn them off when I getting ready to leave

Camco Hot Water Hybrid Heat, 6 gal kit
installed kit and it blows the braker .......
have the TT pluged in to 20 amp plug......
p;uged it in to anouther plug by it's self and the same thing.

The specs on this show it has a 425 watt heating element which equates to around 3.5 amps on 120 volts. That's not a lot.

Can you give more specific details on HOW and WHAT you are plugging into, as well as what this other plug by itself is (is this an outlet in the RV or an outlet separate of the RV)?
Since it draws so few amps, I'm thinking you either have a wiring installation problem, or you may have energized the element when it was not submersed in water (no water in tank) and the element is now burned out.

The electric element replaces the anode rod. Bad idea. Without an anode rod your water heater is now susceptible to corrosion, which will reduce the life of your water heater.

found the problem
the GFI at the out side of the house was the problem..........
hooked the hotRod unit to a none GFI plug and all is good...........
allso added a ground from the plug in side of camper to the frame.......

No problem if your water heater is an Atwood that doesn't use an anode. However, if it's a Suburban water heater that uses an anode it would not be a good idea to remove the anode to use the Camco kit.
