How do you wipe away the high price toilet paper?

I get sticker shock every time I buy RV toilet paper. I had one person tell my wife there is no difference in regular toilet paper and RV toilet paper.

For the record I hook up to sewer, make the drain is closed, put a few gallons of water and the tank tablet to break down waste.

I was under the impression that RV toilet paper broke down quicker and easier.

Any thoughts?

This has been discussed many times previously. There are even videos on YouTube showing tests of shaking different brands in a bottle of water.

You will get many recommendations on what to use and you'll even hear from those that dont flush it at all and throw it into a trashcan. (Yuck!)

Here's what we've done in EVERY camper we've owned in 40+ years... We use the SAME EXACT toilet paper we use in our home. No problems in our septic tank and NEVER a issue in the camper.

There are several RV related , 'old wive's tales'.
RV toilet paper and Nitrogen filled tires come to mind quickly.

Skip the RV emery cloth (uh...I mean toilet paper) and use Angel Soft double-ply TP or the Walmart Good Value brand single ply TP.

Both work great in my RV.

But don't use 1/2 a roll for each wipe of the booty...

And, don't forget to flush paper down each time with plenty of water.

We actually did a test of TP at a rally a couple of years ago where we put several brands of TP along with the RV brands each separately in a mason jar and let them sit for five minutes in plain water, then shook them up.

The Angel Soft was the only brand that completely disintegrated after 5 minutes in the water while the rest all still held their shape mostly.

The Walmart brand I bought as the Angel Soft was not available at that particular Walmart (T or C, NM) and I bought what seemed to be a 1000 roll package that lasted several months (still have some in there) in my RV while full-timing and flushed out without any issues.

We just use Costco's Kirkland brand toilet paper at home and in the TT.

You don't need RV toilet paper. Not only is it pricey, but it's VERY soft and there are very few sheets. We use the same toilet paper we use in our house (we have a septic system). We get the single ply from Costco. It works just fine.

We use Angel Soft or perferably Costco TP. 17 years RVing including 7+ full timing, 4 different RVs and never a problem. I do, however, run the tank flush every dump.

We've been camping for years and never had a black tank clog and heard horror stories of what people had to do to unclog.


Never empty the tank unless it's at least 3/4th full (if it's not and you need to empty, stand on the flusher for about 5 minutes!)

Testing videos all over YouTube. Even a couple that came back and resubmitted an update to their results. A manf had changed the paper formula or water process and made for a toilet paper that didn't break down as fast as before.

I did my own tests with the papers I wanted to use. As proven in the videos and my tests 2 ply break down quicker than 1 ply.
I used the quart mayo jars, I put in four sheets of slightly crumpled 2 ply, then poured it full of water only. I did not shake mine, because in an RV the toilet the water is running down via gravity and not suction and does not have the violent force of suction and water as in home toilets. We let them sit undisturbed on the counter for a day, then two. After 24 hours it was amazing how much the toilet papers had disintegrated and dissolved. After 48 hours even more. I did it all again with 8 sheets and the result was the same. In the RV tank we always use the Bio-Pak pods for deodorizing and aid in waste break down. When we dump I never see clumps of toilet paper going down and waste has really begun to breakdown even after a weekend of camping. We start with about 1/4 to 1/3 in the black tank that already has treatment in it. I think many people try to conserve water and have too little water that helps with breakdown and forcing waste out of that black tank. Now cleansing wipes are still a no-no even if it says flushable and septic tank safe. In an RV it is asking for trouble, although I know some people that have successfully done it and are happy.

100k for a motor home and RV toilet paper at Walmart is less than $ 1.00 per roll

We are ex houseboaters. The houseboat we stayed on for many summers had a marine macerating toilet and we were instructed to NEVER put toilet paper down it. Solution is a waste basket sitting next to the privy with a wally-world bag in it.
Roll the TP clean side out and toss in the wastebasket.
Toss the bag in the dumpster during your evening CG walkabout.
Buy what ever kind you like.
Never worry about whether it is RV tank friendly or not!
This isn't that hard!!
