whatever you do, just do research to make an informed decision that best fits you, we paid 1300.00 for 7 years, including tires (includes my truck if its hooked to the trailer)
186.oo per year for the added insurance is worth it to me, i spend that on starbucks in a year, on a 27K investment its nothing but peace of mind to me, if i never make a claim i'm happy with that too!
ours is through Cornerstone (Ultimate package), been in businses like 30+ years
also check someone like RV Extended Warranty Coverage, RV Warranty Specialists - Wholesale Warranties for RV Repair , talk to Brittany, she's great, we didnt go with her warranty in the end because the dealer matched it

We also purchased an extended warranty. With my background in the powersports/ recreation vehicle world (service writer) I decided an extended warranty was a good idea. I've seen to many people unhappy when having to shell out large sums of money for a repair they were not expecting.
You also should know, the warranty companys offer these plans to dealers priced much less than what is offered to you, the consumer. Most plans sell for around 1800.0 for a 7 year extension. However you can usually "bargain" this price down with your dealer. From my experience a plan selling for 1800. usually cost around 900. to 1000. anything above that is dealer profit. What I suggest is to offer a number somewhere in-between those two numbers. That way your saving money, and the dealer is making something (both are happy). Remember, your dealer is there to make money and a dealer that makes money..will be there to service your needs for many many years!
Anyway. I have an extended warranty, 7 years for 1400. Hope I never need it..but I'll be glad that I do if I ever do need it.

I am picking up my 3170 DS next week from the dealer in Albany, NY. They want $4k for a 7 yr extended, $649 for a 5 yr tire, and $549 for fabric and interior.
$5193 for warranties. Seems like a lot! Good Sam was $1400 for a 4 yr.
I hear people on hear talk about a 2nd yr FR. How do you get that?

bought a 2012 pre-owned (so no factory warranty) last month and got a Good Sam 7 yr warranty - just towed it down the fwy as the Fridge stopped working on 110v - paid $1800 for the policy
also had a tire shred a couple of days ago and I bought 4 new - darn it, don't have tire warranty (but do now - thru Discount tire) - also don't have fabric & interior
would suggest the $649 for the tire policy might be worthwhile, along with one that covers all appliances
might check to see if the extended one starts the day you get it (most do) which double covers the factory policy - I'd wait until the factory policy is about to run out and then get the extension (check with Good Sam, or whomever to see if ya can get it when the factory policy expires). Good luck, select carefully.....Bill

Well, so far you haven't told us what company has offered you that.
As for how the $150 for one year has a greater value to some people- I think the big thing for me is that for me to consider $1800 (or $1200 for what I was offered on my trailer)- that would mean I would have to have a major breakdown just to break even. In my trailer one of the furnace, water heater, fridge, stove, or stereo breaking down would not come to $1200.
The other thing the 2nd year for $150 bought me was a little time. I took delivery of my trailer just under 2 years ago. By the time 1 year was up I had 1 minor issue; which I delayed getting looked at until the camping season was done. Then it also covered my Trail Express tires; so it paid for itself there. I now have one more minor issue that I am almost debating if I should even take it back to get looked at. (I likely will.)
However I can see how that 50% refund if unused might come back to haunt me. Would I get the minor issue looked at knowing it could end up costing me the $600 refund. (One of the outdoor speakers isn't working. I never use the outdoor speakers; it was when a friend borrowed my trailer that he noticed.) What about the tires? I could have bought similar tires for around $120 for the pair- would I have even bothered?
For me- having worked in sales and knowing that 50% of the purchase price goes to the RV dealer; it also makes me a little skeptical of the value.

Absolutely. For every person who got their money's worth there are a hundred who got ripped off. Many of those contracts are only valid at the dealership who sold you the policy. If they go out of business you are just one more creditor in line for your money. Even those vendors who honor work at other dealerships, need pre-approval before they will pay. Most will try to blame you for whatever claim you try to file and you almost have to threaten a lawsuit to get them to pay at all.

I purchased the extended warrenty from the dealer because I live and camp solo, and am not comfortable with a new Travel Trailer dealing with electrical and plumbing issues. I am experienced with sweating copper and running wires, but have no experience figuring all that out on my new Travel Trailer--and when you guys start talking 'electrical-ese', you lose me! However, I have learned to winterize the plumbing using an air compressor to clear the lines, drain the water heater, do the bypass, and use the Antifreeze. Will soon be time to do that--snow flurries on their way!

The cost of replacing the frig alone, makes an extended warranty worth while.

Bought the 7 year on my previous rig because it was the first we bought. Read the restrictions very carefully. The contracts I have read require you to have proof that you paid a service shop to inspect your fridge, heater, A/C, etc. ONCE a year. That may average out to $300-$400 dollars annually for preventive maintenance to keep your contract in force.

We have about 26,000 users here. I wonder how many have ever replaced a fridge. I am sure many had theirs repaired; but even with a complete cooling system replacement it would only cost a few hundred dollars.
Dometic RM2652, RM2653, RM3662, RM3663
A DM2652 cooling unit is 350 bucks less core charge.

Wow.... I think some of you need to reject the warranty a few times and watch the price fall like a stone. I've been through this routine with every vehicle I've purchased over the last 15 years or so. The final offer is usually around 40% of the initial price the dealer gives.
My Salem TT was no different... I really didn't want the warranty. My dealer doubled the 1 year from FR so I had 2 years and thought that was enough. Once he got down to $850 for the 7 year (actually 5 additional years) I couldn't resist.
I really love the feeling of not caring if somehthing breaks. I haven't read the fineprint but imagine if it's water intrusion they'd deny it if I don't have the seals checked 17X a year but whatever.... I'm mainly in it for the mechanical aspects. As many have said, a fridge alone is 1500+. Slideout? Furance? Water heater? Lights? Microwave? etc, etc, etc. I'm a big Clark Howard fan and am historically against ext. warranties but there's a HUGE value to me being able to relax when using my TT and not worry.
So, if nothing else...... at least deny the dealer's offers until he's all done (usually on takes 10 minutes or so) and you'll get the best deal.

We're looking at campers right now. Trying to decide do we want a warranty or not? Maybe we'll try your tactic and see if it works...if we get a good offer like yours, we'd probably say YES!!
